We are looking for a remote in the field Purchasing Manager, Growing Media who will join our Local Raws Procurement team.
This position is responsible for the Strategic Procurement of ~$40MM+ Growing Media raw materials: The individual in this position will develop and execute disciplined sourcing strategies for the Scotts MiracleGro brands, specifically the NA soils and mulch businesses. Bark/Mulch, (Grinding materials, Chips), Bark Fines (Forest residues), Soils, Compost and Alternate Raw Materials (Cedar, Redwood) and other miscellaneous items to support 9+ internal locations throughout the Region.
A highly motivated, passionate applicant should be equipped to:
-Conduct Territory Analyses: Supply Demand, Supplier, Competitive, Economic and Cost structure. Monthly Regional Reviews.
-Understand key business needs
-The individual will be responsible for leading the supplier selection; developing and maintaining relationships with key existing and potential suppliers. In addition, this individual will need to be able to work with a diverse group of manufacturing facilities located throughout the Region.
-Utilize appropriate tactical plans (market, supplier relationship, internal, cost structure) to deliver business needs (cash, cost, innovation, quality, risk mitigation, sustainability/stewardship). DPO/AP, MPV, New Raw Materials and/or Suppliers Scorecards.
-Align cross leadership/cross functional partners. MRP, R & D, Technical, Regulatory, Finance.
What you’ll do in this role:
-Actively manage supplier relationships to create and deliver maximum value as it pertains to long-term cost savings, improved utilization of assets, business building and innovation.
-Negotiate and execute contractual agreements.
-Work with R&D/Technical and other cross functional teams to develop innovative opportunities
-Ensure suppliers are following Scotts Sustainability guidelines and implementing required actions
-Lead evaluation of supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential to determine supply base
-Actively participate in the leadership of the Direct Procurement Team
-Stewardship: must have a demonstrated ability to understand, apply policy, procedures and standards
-Travel as required (Domestic & International- Canada). Approximately 25-35%.
What you’ll need to be successful:
Education:
Minimum: BS in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Accounting/Finance, Economics, Logistics, Business Administration
Desired: MBA
Experience:
Minimum: 5+ years
Knowledge & Skills:
-Must be able to identify and develop new supplier relationships.
-Effective communication: Key procurement interface with Senior Management. Must be able to effectively communicate across all levels and functions within SMG and with external business partners. Demonstrated ability to influence business choices/direction, both commercially and technically.
-Builds diverse, collaborative relationships- This role requires building effective relationships cross-functionally, and with external partners.
-Disciplined: Must demonstrate ability to handle a large volume of responsibility while setting and managing priorities accordingly. This role will entail responsibilities for both current business and new business. Growing Media is a fast-paced environment.
-Critical thinking: Proven ability to develop unique solutions to business problems and enroll others in your vision. Must be creative and have ability to think out the box in developing game-changing strategies for long-term business growth. Must be able to see the big picture and develop solutions in context of the total business. Must be able to independently source and evaluate supplier relative to strategy and negotiations.
-Leadership- Must be a strong, passionate leader who is willing to set stretching goals.
-Ability to effectively navigate in a regulated industry (ie; Organic/OMRI requirements, Mulch & Soil Council.
