Job description

Job Title: Payroll & Benefits Specialist

Location: Remote, Toronto 

Department: HR

Reports to: Head of People & Employee Experience

About the Role

As our Benefits & Payroll Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in making sure our team is paid accurately, on time, and supported with the right benefits as we grow. You’ll own payroll and benefits administration for our distributed team across Canada  and the U.S., help us scale systems and policies, and ensure we stay compliant, efficient, and employee-friendly.

What You’ll Do:

  • Process semi monthly payroll & employee tax forms in Canada and the U.S., ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
    Manage all benefits administration, including health, dental, vision, RRSP and 401(k), leave programs, and more

  • Own employee lifecycle payroll changes (onboarding, offboarding, promotions, etc.)

  • Serve as the go-to contact for employee questions about pay, benefits, and deductions

  • Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll reports and support audits
    Ensure compliance with provincial/state and federal payroll and employment regulations
    Support benefits renewals, vendor relationships, and system improvements

  • Maintain confidential records and drive process documentation

  • Support Head of PEE on culture / company initiatives (committees, policies, handbook , employee experience initiatives) to drive culture of XXXX (performance imo but align with company statements) 

What You Bring:

  • 2–4 years of experience in payroll and/or benefits administration
    Experience processing payroll across Canada and the U.S.

  • Familiarity with tools like Humi, Gusto, Paychex, Rippling, Hibob, is an asset.
    Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment
    Knowledge of employment standards, tax regulations, and benefits compliance

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • PCP/CPM or similar certification is a plus (Canada)

  • Experience with EOR / PEO * asset but not required

  • Experience in Multi-Entity , Multi Currency Environment * Asset but not required
