Job Description:
JOB OVERVIEW
The Truck Consultant will focus on all service vehicles of all classes and support customers to secure the right vehicle for the job; as such, role requires a strong technical knowledge of Class 1-3 trucks, commercial trailers, and miscellaneous equipment. Once the vehicle specifications have been defined, individual will collaborate with Account Management, Account Executive and Vehicle Operations to deliver a quality, road ready vehicle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with directly with current Clients and potential prospects; apply technical knowledge to identify vehicle requirements and be responsible for recommending and implementing custom service body vehicle solutions.
- Provide technical expertise to build vehicle/equipment specifications and submit quotes to suppliers.
- Work concurrently on one or more portfolio projects of moderately complex scope
- Work with OEM’s; supply chain facilitates a competitive bid process to ensure customer requirements are delivered accurately and cost effectively.
- Act as a technical liaison between Client, Account Management, and suppliers to resolve issues or design solutions.
- Support company quality initiatives, including all efforts associated with lean six sigma methodology.
- Train new hires, including technical training, instruction, and/or guidance within area of responsibility.
- In a consultative role, participate in Client visits and deliver presentations when asked.
- Participate in Supplier visits and training.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of:
- Truck and equipment models and specifications
- Supplier network, services, lead times and performance
- Map vehicle order workflow to ensure satisfactory results.
- Upfitters bailment pools and their inventory
- Wheels internal operating procedures
- Federal & State Emission standards
- Laws affecting the operation of trucks and equipment.
- Utilize all systems available to plan, manage, and effectively work client orders.
- Provide support to other members of the Truck team.
- Achieve internal operating metrics.
- Support Wheels’ efforts towards 100% client retention
- Up to 10% travel to field sites
- Other duties may be assigned.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES- This position has no people leader responsibilities.
COMPETENCIES - SKILLS
- Mechanical experience and aptitude
- Knowledge of Class 1-3 trucks & equipment plus a variety of aftermarket equipment/industry configurations
- Working knowledge of chassis acquisitions \ OEM’s, Dealer’s & Bailment Pools
- Experience specifying and quoting Class 1-3 trucks and equipment.
- Ability to apply lean principles to daily processes.
- Ability to effectively present information; ability to explain how and why specific conclusions were reached.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong analytical, organization and problem-solving skills and a bent toward detail orientation
- Professionalism in all activities
- Good verbal and written skills
- Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills
- Effective relationship building skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- One (1) to three (3) years related work experience with light duty truck and van, after-market truck applications (service bodies, hoist etc) and equipment (back-up cameras, ladders, toolboxes, snow plough)
- High School Diploma required
- Certification in an automotive or engineering discipline preferred.
- Experience specifying and quoting trucks & equipment.
- TMI accreditations, Course 1 & 2 preferred
JOB SPECIFICATIONS, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment: This position is in Alpharetta, GA or DesPlaines, IL and operates in a professional office environment.
Position Type/Standard Schedule: This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday.
Travel: Up to 10% travel to field sites
Physical Demands: Speak, hear, and see, and to use hand and fingers for computer keyboard and phone. Sit or stand for extended periods of time. Reach above head to pull paper attachments.

Pay Range:
$77,400-$108,400
The base salary range for this position is listed above. This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive plan which is based on company performance and individual performance. Compensation ranges are based on several factors including job function, level, and geographic location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, education, certifications, skill level and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed here.
