Job Summary:

Operate as part of a team of professionals that is responsible for the 24x7 availability of Geisinger's 30,000+ node, 150+ site network, cloud, and data center infrastructure. This includes support for but not limited to: LAN/WAN, Cloud, Server, Storage, Virtualization, and Database.

Job Duties:

  • Monitors and maintains the IT infrastructure via tools or otherwise to ensure maximum availability.
  • Deployment and maintenance of the IT infrastructure.
  • Consults with project teams to ensure compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure, and services.
  • Creates necessary documentation of systems and infrastructure. Informs appropriate personnel of new features, limitations, and considerations produced by upgrades or new products.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new hardware products and upgrades.
  • Utilizes standard procedures and methods to complete projects and work orders as assigned.
  • Assists other engineers in determining Infrastructure Change Management risk.
  • Responsible for the lifecycle of IT infrastructure components
  • Participates in verification of normal service after all scheduled repairs or upgrades.
  • Assists with troubleshooting and diagnosing errors in equipment.
  • Knowledge in one or more sub-specialties of IT infrastructure (I.e. Security/firewalling, network protocols and topology, wireless, Data Center infrastructure, cloud, storage, etc.)
  • Responds and take ownership or assists with incidents, requests or tasks and tickets as assigned.
  • May be required to take place in an On-Call rotation.
  • Ability to follow a MOP (Method of Procedure) for upgrade and deployment of infrastructure technologies.
  • May be needed to provide guidance to other technical personnel in appropriate areas of expertise.
  • Provides input into the design of infrastructure solutions.
  • Understand the architecture of the infrastructure components and how they interact.
  • May be needed to own or be a subject matter expert in specific infrastructure technologies.
  • Ability to create MOPs (Method of Procedure) for upgrade and deployment of infrastructure technologies.
