Instructional Designer (e-Learning & Virtual Training)

Job Type: Full-Time, Remote (US Only)

Pay: Exempt, Salary (Starting at $70-$75k)

About the Role:

As an Instructional Designer at Positive Development, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the provision of high-quality services to our clients by developing engaging, effective training programs that equip our employees with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver our specialized care model. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing self-directed e-learning courses within our Learning Management System (LMS) as well as creating materials for virtual instructor-led training (VILT). The ideal candidate is skilled in adult learning principles, e-learning development, instructional technology, and designing interactive learning experiences that drive knowledge retention and skill application.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop engaging, interactive e-learning modules for self-directed training using industry-standard authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate).
  • Develop curriculum and learning materials for virtual instructor-led training (VILT), including facilitator guides, participant workbooks, slide decks, and assessments.
  • Apply instructional design principles to create content that supports diverse learning needs, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles.
  • Ensure all training content aligns with adult learning theories, accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508), and best practices for retention and engagement.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex topics into clear, digestible learning experiences.
  • Upload, organize, and manage courses within the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring smooth learner access and tracking.
  • Optimize e-learning courses for compatibility across devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
  • Leverage multimedia elements such as videos, animations, interactive scenarios, and simulations to enhance learner engagement.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to online course deployment, navigation, and functionality within the LMS.
  • Develop knowledge checks, quizzes, assessments, and surveys to measure learning outcomes.
  • Observe learners and/or facilitators to evaluate user experience and opportunities to optimize effectiveness.
  • Analyze learner feedback and training effectiveness data to improve course content and instructional strategies.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, instructional technologies, and best practices to continuously enhance the training experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education, or a related field.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience designing e-learning and virtual training programs.
  • Proficiency in e-learning development tools (Articulate Storyline, Rise, Captivate, Camtasia, Vyond, etc.).
  • Experience with LMS administration and content deployment.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theories, instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, etc.), and Bloom’s Taxonomy.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with gamification, scenario-based learning, and microlearning techniques.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or developmental therapy training.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508 compliance).
  • Experience facilitating virtual training sessions using Microsoft Teams, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with TalentLMS and Rippling.
