Job description

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to be the first of its kind in our organization. This role is instrumental in architecting and implementing data pipelines and transformations to support our client services and analytics capabilities. As part of the Client Services team, reporting to the Director of Client Services, you will design and optimize data architecture to drive data-driven insights, reporting, and analytics. You will work with Azure, MongoDB Atlas, and Power BI, building scalable and efficient data solutions that enhance the performance and reliability of our EdTech products and services. 

 

Essential Responsibilities: 

Data Architecture & Strategy: 

  • Design, develop, and implement a scalable data architecture that supports real-time and batch processing needs.
  • Establish best practices for data governance, security, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Define data modeling approaches for structured and unstructured data within Azure and MongoDB Atlas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data integration across the organization.

Data Pipelines & Integration: 

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Utilize Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Functions to build efficient cloud-native solutions.
  • Manage and enhance MongoDB Atlas schemas, indexing, and performance optimization.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources into a unified data warehouse or lakehouse.

Analytics & Reporting: 

  • Design and implement data models for Power BI and other reporting tools to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility for business intelligence and analytics teams.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into data solutions.

Security, Compliance & Performance: 

  • Implement data security and access controls to protect sensitive client and organizational data.
  • Optimize database performance, storage, and retrieval mechanisms for large datasets.
  • Establish monitoring and alerting systems for data quality and pipeline performance.

Skills and Qualifications: 

Required: 

  • 5+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related role.
  • Strong expertise in Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Synapse, Functions, etc.).
  • Experience managing MongoDB Atlas, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in Power BI and best practices for data visualization and modeling.
  • Expertise in SQL, NoSQL, and data warehousing.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and data pipeline orchestration.
  • Familiarity with data governance and compliance (FERPA, GDPR, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.

Preferred: 

  • Experience in the EdTech industry or familiarity with education data.
  • Exposure to Python, Spark, or Databricks for data transformation.
  • Knowledge of machine learning or AI-driven analytics.
