MasTec Communications Group is seeking an experienced Central Office (CO) Installer IV with a strong background in DC/Power installations. This role involves a balance of physical labor and technical expertise, requiring knowledge of power systems, large cabling, and central office equipment installation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly skilled, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, travel-heavy environment.
Responsibilities
About the Role:
Perform CO installations with a focus on DC/Power systems (50/50 split between installation and power work).
Handle and install batteries weighing up to 700-800 lbs., including hoisting, building racks, charging, and connecting batteries.
Work with large power cables, such as 750 MCM.
Execute installation work, including:
30% Power cable and bays
20% Ironwork (all team members participate in ironwork)
Determine floor plan layouts, power distribution, backup power supplies, and cabling requirements.
Design, identify, and requisition necessary parts for racking, power distribution, transmission systems, lighting, and grounding.
Create and update installation specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), schematics, and customer location records.
Interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to ensure accurate assembly and integration of telecommunications transmission equipment.
Utilize hand tools, including crimpers, wire wrap guns, strippers, wrenches, hammers, drills, and stencils.
Transport and inventory tools/materials as required.
Supervise and provide guidance to lower-level installers, ensuring job progress, material availability, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Conduct quality checks and verify all installation work before sign-off.
Assemble, modify, and install overhead ironwork, relay racks, transmission equipment, and cable ladders.
Route and connect power, signal, and ground cables.
Stencil installed equipment and terminations for identification and organization.
Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers, supervisors, and co-workers.
Maintain accurate documentation and departmental paperwork as required.
Adhere to all safety and security requirements, ensuring a hazard-free work environment.
Qualifications
About you:
High School Diploma or GED required; Electronics training (minimum two years of technical trade school or equivalent) preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Level III Central Office Installer.
Strong customer service skills; ability to respond to customer needs and solicit feedback for continuous improvement.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and company-provided databases for job status updates.
Ability to lift tools and equipment as needed (minimum 10 lbs.).
Familiarity with industry specifications and quality standards, including IP72202.
Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
Dependable, follows instructions, and maintains commitments.
Working Conditions:
Must be willing and available for extensive travel (up to 90-100%).
Work will primarily take place in central offices, also known as telephone switching centers, wire centers, or telephone exchanges.
Position requires adaptability to various work environments and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
