Role Overview:

 

This role will be a member of the Learning and Knowledge Management Center of Excellence supporting the Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) business of New York Life. This role will work closely with business partners across GBS to design and develop innovative, impactful learning experiences and resources that support employee development and enhance the quality of services delivered by employees across the GBS.

The Learning Experience Designer (LXD) is responsible for applying instructional design best practices and adult learning theories to analyze business and learner needs, design comprehensive learning solutions, develop and implement blended programs, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these programs. This role collaborates with subject matter experts, project managers, and other stakeholders to design and develop innovative instructional materials and programs.

The LXD works with the support of the Learning Experience Design Lead to manage all components of learning experience projects, working independently and at times with other learning professionals. The LXD ensures their projects are delivered on time and within the defined scope while demonstrating the flexibility to operate in an ever-changing environment where priorities and unexpected needs may shift work demand and focus.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

Assess training needs

 

  • Collaborate with business leads, subject matter experts, project managers, learning professionals, and other partners to identify learning and performance needs
  • Conduct needs analysis to identify whether training is the appropriate solution for the business and if so, what specific needs are to be targeted.
  • Identify performance success metrics and how to measure learning solution impact

 

Design and develop training solutions

 

  • Ensure learning design is appropriate to the audience and considers any limitations, previous experience, and learning preferences to create an effective and engaging learning experience.
  • Align the training solution with strategic business and learning program goals.
  • Apply instructional design methods to design the most effective learning strategy that meets business needs.
  • Abide by established learning governance in completing training design documents to clearly communicate learning objectives that address needs, including course outlines, learning program plan, action map, etc.
  • Design and develop dynamic, engaging blended learning programs that may include instructor-led training, eLearning courses, microlearning, simulations, games, and reference guides while applying proven techniques to increase retention and engage and motivate learners.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using rapid authoring tools and development techniques, including prototyping and iterative design, to create eLearning courses, microlearning, videos, online assessments, and other digital learning resources.

Implement training solutions

 

  • Partner with facilitators to deliver train-the-trainer programs
  • Facilitate workshops or learning programs to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity, engagement, and relevance.
  • Partner with operations training teams or program managers to coordinate the scheduling of training programs, including pilot programs
  • Manage the delivery of training resources and programs using tools such as learning management systems and the learning repository
  • Create and deliver manager support resources to aid in the application and retention of learning content in day-to-day tasks

 

Evaluation and ongoing support

 

  • Collaborate with the Learning Strategic Analyst to measure the success of the learning solution using industry standards, recommend changes, and implement updates to improve quality
  • Perform ongoing curriculum maintenance as needed to ensure training materials are current by scheduling periodic program reviews, managing version control of content revisions, and ensuring content is available in a secure shared location
  • Continuously improve the effectiveness and depth of the training curricula by staying current with evolving instructional design techniques

Program support

 

  • Work on multiple projects concurrently, monitor activity, progress, and timelines related to project development
  • Effectively communicate and interact well with others in both written and oral communication for all areas and levels of the business
  • Create and manage all aspects of project documentation including a project plan, learning program plan, and communication plan
  • Apply knowledge management best practices for organizing, tracking, and retaining project-related source files

 

What you'll bring:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, certification, and/or equivalent work experience
  • Certification in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Adult Learning Theory, or related field
  • 3+ years proven experience facilitating engaging and effective workshops and VILT/ILT classes
  • Facilitate workshops or learning programs to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity, engagement, and relevance
  • Advanced level of expertise in all areas of learning and development including learning technology, analysis, learning experience design/development, facilitation, evaluation, and knowledge management
  • Expertise in adult learning principles and instruction design models such as ADDIE, SAM, and Agile Instructional Design
  • Proficient with training development tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (including Premier Pro, Adobe Express, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.), Articulate Suite, Camtasia, Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Visio), and Vyond
  • Proficient in the use of web conferencing and similar collaboration tools to deliver training
  • Proven experience developing documentation such as job aids using information mapping principles
  • Ability to incorporate the principles of adult learning into training curricula using instructor-led, virtual and eLearning platforms
  • Ability to bring innovative thought process to curriculum design and curation while conveying complex information into meaningful, effective training course material
  • Ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong organization and time management skills; effectively adapting to multiple and/or competing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and collaboration skills with an ability to work across a broad-based, diverse constituency and demonstrate a growth mindset
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to deliver information in a confident, creative, and engaging manner 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information to an audience of varying levels of technical knowledge and responsibility
  • Show ownership of professional development by taking advantage of and seeking opportunities to continuously improve
  • Demonstrated ability to work at both the conceptual and detailed levels and easily shift between the two
  • Ability to travel, approximately 2 times per year

Pay Transparency

Salary range: $67,500-$117,500 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No 

 

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
