Position Summary:
Reporting to the Country Director, Chile, the Conservation Manager, Coastal Resilience will lead conservation projects in coastal and marine areas, included within the Americas Flyways Initiative (AFI). This role acts as a liaison between diverse sectors to secure technical assistance and funding, and supports the development of projects prioritizing Nature and Climate-based Solutions and migratory bird conservation. Additionally, the manager will implement Audubon’s Coastal Bird Stewardship Program and collaborate with the Pacific Americas Shorebird Conservation Strategy.
Remote in Chile (preferably from regions from Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía)

Essential Functions
Align Coastal Resilience work in Chile with organizational priorities and support the Audubon Americas Director of Coastal Resilience Strategy in implementing the strategy in Chile’s coastal landscapes and seascapes through on-the-ground activities.
Support the AFI Senior Director in developing an AFI portfolio of projects for Chile.
Establish and maintain a system for identifying opportunities for the implementation of the Americas Flyways Initiative and build a portfolio of potential projects, partners and beneficiaries.
Implement and oversee Audubon’s Coastal Bird Stewardship Program, which includes training volunteers, long-term monitoring, signage and fencing, beachgoer education, and working with coastal communities.
Carry out and ensure effective and timely execution of project activities in priority landscapes in coordination with project partners and consultants, guaranteeing high-quality implementation and deliverables.
Provide technical expertise and input for activities and project deliverables that include review, analysis, editing, writing and translation.
Oversee project deliverables to ensure objectives are achieved, including management of consultants, as needed.
Help monitor and report on project progress –results and products –by gathering information, writing reports and coordinating closely with partners, consultants and technical staff.
Effectively coordinate and communicate with in-country partners, Audubon Americas staff, and key stakeholders in order to achieve a high level of collaboration that facilitates project implementation.
Oversee contract work by independent contractors and when needed, manage intern staff through establishment of work objectives and priorities, reviewing and revising these objectives on an ongoing basis to guide and mentor team members in their work progress.
When needed, represent Audubon by participating in meetings, workshops and other activities and events related to the work.
Support other activities, as appropriate, for the development of Audubon’s mission in Chile, including, but not limited, support in the design of proposals for bird conservation, institutional relationships, and follow-up to projects (manage consultants and make sure deliverables are handed on time, and objectives of projects are achieved).
Work alongside the Conservation Manager – ENCA to develop and implement projects to achieve the ENCA action lines that aligns with the Chile program’s blueprint.
Align efforts with the Pacific Americas Shorebird Conservation Strategy, working alongside the strategy's coordinator to identify priority threats, effective conservation actions, and coordinated approaches necessary to maintain and restore populations of shorebirds and their habitats along the Pacific Flyway.
Write proposals and other technical and administrative documents, such as Terms of Reference, white papers, and others as required.
Present the result of projects to external audiences, adapting the presentation to fit the needs and communication level of the audience.
Support a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities.
Maintains and fosters culture of safety.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental sciences or related field required. Higher degree preferred.
Five years of related experience in developing and implementing conservation projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Ornithological knowledge is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills; excellent judgment and decision-making skills, possessing a high degree of integrity in all deliverables.

Ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, proactively, with minimal supervision and to maintain accountability for work products.
Demonstrated experience working with external partners from diverse sectors such as the public, NGO and civil society.
Demonstrated experience leading community on-the-ground work (volunteering activities, workshops, trainings, etc).
Ability to perform under pressure and, sometimes, with short deadlines.
Ability to integrate strategic thinking in the design of proposals and building alliances for the implementation of projects and public policies.
Professional with high work and moral integrity and ethics.
Spanish and English languages fluency required.
Advance use of Microsoft Office – use of other software as ArcGIS is a plus.
Interest in conservation and passion for the mission of the National Audubon Society a must.
Availability to travel frequently to Santiago, other deep intervention sites, and internationally, as required.
