Job description

Job Description

The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) seeks an Education Policy Intern (or Fellow if the applicant is a graduate student) to support the Policy Team in implementing the Education Scholars Training Program (ESTP). The ESTP is an initiative that helps a diverse cohort of scholars who study education build relationships with policymakers and transform education policy in the United States. This internship is an opportunity for a current graduate or undergraduate student to learn about how to build connections between researchers and policy actors to support research-informed policymaking.

The ESTP Intern is a part-time position with an hourly wage between $15-$18 per hour, commensurate with experience. The position requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per week and would take place over Summer 2025,  with the possibility for extension. This position is fully remote and reports to SSN’s Policy Associate leading the ESTP.

SSN currently operates in a remote-first, hybrid work environment, but this role may be available as a fully remote position for an exceptionally qualified candidate. For employees located in Massachusetts, SSN provides the option to work at SSN’s main offices, located at 501 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02116.

Responsibilities

Among other tasks, the Education Policy Intern will:

  • Assist with policy actor outreach and facilitating relationships with scholars. This will include supporting initial outreach to policy actors, helping with meeting preparation, and sitting in on and documenting meetings with policy actors and scholars
  • Assist with policy brief editing and preparing other policy-related outreach documents
  • Learn about and observe SSN’s policy and media trainings for ESTP scholars, with the goal of working toward co-leading a training
  • Help the Policy Team measure and assess the impact of the ESTP
  • Facilitate communication with ESTP scholars and assist with event coordination
  • Engage in weekly Zoom Policy Team meetings as well as mentoring meetings with one of the Policy Team staff
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, depending on experience, interest, and department needs

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position would be:

  • Current undergraduate student or graduate student
  • Experienced in, or excited to learn about, education research and policy
  • Able to act professionally with policy actors with diverse political beliefs
  • Self-motivated, professional, positive, and trustworthy
  • Able to work on tasks independently in a remote work environment and communicate progress to team members
  • An excellent writer and proofreader
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and willing to ask questions
  • Excited to learn and apply new skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Dropbox, and Zoom. Experience with Salesforce and/or Asana is a bonus.
  • Committed to SSN’s mission, interested in evidence-based policy, and eager to learn more about when and how research is used in policymaking
