As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Marketing to take our marketing efforts to the next level. You will play a key leadership role, driving OpenProject’s brand positioning, demand generation, and thought leadership in the open source ecosystem. Working closely with the Leadership, Sales, and Product teams, you will shape our marketing strategy and execution, ensuring OpenProject stands out as the go-to project management solution.

Your mission

As Head of Marketing, you will have full ownership of our marketing strategy, leading a talented team and driving OpenProject’s growth and visibility worldwide.

Key responsibilities

Develop and lead marketing strategy

  • Define and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy, aligning branding, positioning, messaging, and go-to-market plans with our business objectives.

  • Own OpenProject’s marketing roadmap, ensuring strategic alignment with Sales and Product to maximize impact.

Demand generation & growth

  • Design and implement multi-channel marketing campaigns to drive acquisition, engagement, and retention.

  • Leverage SEO, content marketing, digital advertising, and events to fuel sustainable growth.

  • Identify and capitalize on new marketing opportunities that align with OpenProject’s business strategy.

Thought leadership & content strategy

  • Position OpenProject as a leader in open source project management by overseeing high-quality content creation (e.g. landing pages, whitepapers, case studies, blog posts, videos).

  • Represent OpenProject at open source conferences and industry events, strengthening our brand and engaging developers, users, and partners.

Team leadership & development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing marketing team of 5+ professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.

  • Establish best practices, policies, and workflows to improve efficiency and alignment across marketing efforts.

Data-driven decision making

  • Track key performance metrics, analyze results, and optimize strategies to maximize impact and ROI.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to ensure OpenProject remains ahead of the curve.

Budget & resource management

  • Develop and oversee the marketing budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to achieve business goals.

What you’ll bring
  • 5+ years of experience in B2B SaaS/Tech marketing.

  • Proven success in executing impactful marketing strategies and driving growth in a SaaS or technology-driven environment.

  • Strong understanding of SaaS business models, target markets, and customer personas.

  • Expertise in digital marketing, content marketing, demand generation, and marketing automation platforms.

  • Proven ability to analyze metrics, track performance, and make data-informed decisions to optimize marketing strategies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German (C1+), with strong presentation capabilities.

  • Experience in organizing, attending, and representing brands at industry events and conferences.

  • Passion for open source technology, remote collaboration, and community-driven innovation.
