This is a completely remote position based in the United States and supporting remote teams. On rare occasions travel may be required, but it is uncommon.
Scrum Masters drive adoption and continuous refinement of Scrum and other Agile frameworks, facilitate Scrum events, support collaboration and conflict resolution between team members, and help teams measure and improve their performance by coaching and reporting on progress sprint over sprint. In addition, the Scrum Master serves daily as a shield to protect the team’s ability to focus on the sprint goal, and an impediment remover when they arise. Put simply, they help the product owner define value, the development team deliver the value, the QA team to improve quality, and the Scrum team to get better.
The Exciting Part (Your 80s: 80% of your creative focus):
Facilitate Scrum Events, driving and measuring the outcomes of those events and ensuring appropriate follow up on action items.
Shield the Team from interruption by fielding Support questions as they arise, escalating issues as needed and taking ownership for ensuring the question is answered, or the problem solved.
Remove impediments from the team - serving as a player-coach and project managing as needed to ensure that complex problems are solved in a timely manner to allow work to continue.
Work with the Product Owner to refine product requirements alongside the Design team, QA, and Developers
Help create reporting necessary for tracking ongoing metrics and utilize these reports to help the team measure and improve their performance.
Create an environment of collaboration within the teams that allows for open discussion and productive solutions for solving complex issues.
Foster mutual trust and respect among team members and help guide open and honest feedback through retrospectives, sprint reviews and post-mortems.
Champion continuous improvement activities to reduce waste, improve quality, and increase productivity; coaching the organization to continue to inspect/adapt existing processes.
Collaboration with other Scrum Masters to ensure consistent application of the Scrum framework across the organization.
Leadership by coaching and mentoring others to achieve team success.
The Expected Part (Your 20s: role responsibilities and opportunities to enhance)
Understanding of Scrum, Kanban, and other agile frameworks.
Facilitate other non-Scrum events as needed to support the team, utilizing project management skills to help other meetings run smoothly and productively.
Assist in non-typical ways on an ad hoc basis to support the team (i.e. helping to QA a particularly large feature, helping a Product owner write a user story)
Provide advice and guidance on self-organizing principles to teams outside of Product when needed.
