About the Position:
The Special Education Teacher is a key role at LAU and the individual who fills it is responsible for helping ensure quality Special Education services are provided to eligible students.
This is a remote position. This position reports to the LAU Special Education Director and requires
up to 25 hours per week time commitment during the academic year. Compensation for this position is $37.99 - $42.77/hour, depending on education and experience. 401k benefits.
This position is responsible for the following functions:
Provide Special Education Services The LAU Special Education Teacher is responsible for the delivery of all services outlined in the Individual Education Plans (IEPs) of LAU Special Education students in their caseload. The teacher will create, manage, and lead specific content classes geared to IEP goals using platforms like Canvas and Zoom. The teacher will lead, train, and support assigned paraeducators in assisting and teaching the classroom and taking data. The teacher will provide all services themselves or delegate to other team members as the workload necessitates.
Coordinate and Schedule Related Services for Your Caseload of Special Education Students Secure and schedule related service providers for the school’s IEP needs and ensure delivery of these, including but not limited to: speech-language therapy, occupational and physical therapy, counseling, adaptive physical education (accommodations for gym class), early identification and screening, school health services, social work.
Special Education Compliance Ensure all student files in their caseload are kept current and compliant with LAU’s USBE-approved Special Education policies and procedure manual. Utilize LAU’s IEP management software to complete all required documentation for services. Process and maintain confidential files accurately, as required by state and federal laws.
Oversight of IEP Meetings Schedule and lead IEP and eligibility meetings. Send IEP notifications and prepare paperwork according to caseload. Coordinate with teachers and LAU administrators for scheduling IEP meetings, implementing accommodations, and communicating student needs. Communicate effectively with families of students with IEPs and relays information to the IEP teams.
Attend Special Ed Meetings Attend all required meetings, including weekly Special Educations meetings. Report student attendance and data numbers on a weekly basis. Assist with student statewide assessments, as needed.
