Job description

Trilogy Federal provides financial management, information technology (IT) consulting, program management services, and strategic consulting to federal agencies. Trilogy has an extensive history helping federal clients achieve their most ambitious business modernization and optimization goals with the ability to deliver targeted subject matter expertise and full life cycle support.

Trilogy Federal is seeking a Test Automation Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The ideal candidate will be a skilled testing professional with expertise in automation and Agile practices, thriving in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. This role requires a detail-oriented, collaborative individual to join our team, ensuring the quality and reliability of VA corporate IT systems, including legacy applications and DevSecOps-driven initiatives.

The selected Test Automation Engineer must hold an active International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) Agile Tester Certification. This position will focus on designing and executing automated test scripts, aligning with VA’s Veteran-focused Integration Process (VIP) Lean-Agile framework to deliver high-quality, secure IT solutions that meet VA stakeholder needs.

Please note this position is contingent upon award (Q2/Q3 2025), and may require occasional customer site visits in D.C.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for VA corporate IT systems, covering functional, regression, performance, and integration testing across legacy and cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Implement test automation frameworks using tools such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or Cucumber, integrating with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to support rapid Agile releases.
  • Collaborate with Cloud Developers, Integration Leads, and Scrum Masters to define test strategies and ensure comprehensive coverage of requirements within Agile sprints.
  • Execute automated tests, analyze results, and report defects using VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow), contributing to Biweekly Status Reports on test progress and quality metrics.
  • Ensure test cases align with VA security and privacy standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST 800-53, HIPAA), validating secure functionality and data protection in all deliverables.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives), aligning testing efforts with the VIP Lean-Agile framework and sprint goals.
  • Optimize test automation processes to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enhance the reliability of VA IT solutions for end-users and corporate services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve test failures, working with development teams to identify root causes and ensure timely defect resolution.
  • Leverage emerging testing technologies (e.g., AI-driven testing, containerized test environments) to support VA OIT’s modernization and quality assurance goals.
  • Work with VA stakeholders, including the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR), to validate test results, ensure quality standards, and deliver Veteran-centric outcomes.
  • Mentor team members on test automation tools, Agile testing practices, and quality assurance techniques, contributing to Trilogy’s staff development and technical expertise initiatives.
  • Continuously improve test coverage and automation scripts, adapting to evolving VA requirements and system enhancements.

  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) Agile Tester Certification required.
  • 5+ years of experience in test automation, software quality assurance, or a related role, with a focus on federal or VA IT environments.
  • Proven expertise in developing and executing automated tests in Agile settings, with hands-on experience in tools like Selenium, JUnit, or Cucumber and CI/CD integration (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to ensure software quality in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with VA security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST, HIPAA) and the VIP Lean-Agile framework is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint) and VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow).
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technical requirements and travel occasionally to VA sites in Washington, D.C., as needed.
