About the Role:

We seek an engineering leader to lead a high-performing and dynamic team responsible for maintaining our existing scale test suite as well as rearchitecting it to meet our next generation of our company's products. You will also lead a team chartered to bring stability and reliability to our preproduction environment. You will work across engineering to define and drive improvements necessary to remove friction and improve stability. The team is dedicated to empowering our developer community through these tools and fostering strong cross-functional engagement to ensure we deliver our customers reliable and high quality products for their mission critical workloads. As Confluent grows its product portfolio, this base infrastructure becomes increasingly vital in ensuring our capability to sustain the company growth and speed of execution. Your leadership will be critical to delivering performance and tooling to ensure world-class quality and consistency across all services. You will guide the team in significantly contributing to new project scaling efforts, effectively prioritizing tasks to align with company goals, while driving sustained stability in our preproduction test environments. Your leadership will foster a collaborative environment, drive innovation, and maintain high development and management standards.

What You Will Do:

• Lead the vision and execution of scale testing across services , ensuring reliability and consistency in the preproduction test environment .
• Collaborate with product management, and other engineering teams to deliver a scale service roadmap that aligns with our technical strategy and roadmap.
• Deliver high impact to the business by driving stability, and troubleshooting that is aligned with developer needs and preferences to allow low friction and reliable testing.
• Foster a strong community across development actively engaging with developers to prioritize feature requests, bug fixes, and contributions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure critical aspects of the product can be validated and evolving the scale service to meet emerging needs.
• Influence the overall domain health and operational hygiene for the Confluent Cloud Preproduction environments.
• Champion engineering excellence through process improvement and technical leadership.
• Measure and analyze team and product performance to identify opportunities for improvement.

What You Will Bring:

• 5+ years of experience in software development and 2+ years in management.
• Experience in building and designing resilient tools and systems at scale using hyperscale CSPs (AWS, Azure, GCP), with a proven track record of “seeing around corners” to reduce complexity and create critical enduring technical foundations.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and building in a distributed environment at scale.
• Understanding frameworks and best practices for ensuring performance consistency, security, and reliability.
• Ability to influence the team, peers, and upper management using effective communication and collaborative techniques.
• Ability to hire while ensuring a high hiring bar, motivate engineers, coach/mentor, and manage performance.
• An excellent track record of timely shipping features, a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset toward achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
