Background: McGill’s School of Social Work has entered into an agreement with the Cree School Board to deliver an online Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) pilot program in Eeyou Istchee. The School of Social Work is seeking a Course Developer – Curriculum to develop and adapt a course to an online format, working closely with the McGill Online Programs team.

Position summary: Working from an existing outline, your responsibilities will include creating and gathering content such as lectures, student activities and course materials for the course, Human Development Across the Lifespan. Additionally, you will collaborate with an online instructional designer to review materials developed and discuss best online practices for the course. The curriculum for this course must be adapted to include Indigenous Peoples' perspectives, with a particular emphasis on Cree cultural ways of knowing. You will be expected to commit 3-7 hours per week.

This is a short-term, part-time contract that will end in Fall 2025. The position is remote and can be completed from home.

Qualifications:
  • Master of Social Work degree
  • At least 3 years of experience working with children and families in a social work context
  • At least 2 human development courses taken at the undergraduate level
  • Experience conducting psycho-social assessments of children, adolescents and adults
  • Knowledge of major developmental theories

Demonstrated clinical or practical application of, and/or teaching experience in, the following areas:

  • Development from birth to the fourth age
  • Frameworks in life course and life cycle and associated developmental tasks
  • The full span of life from pregnancy/birth to death;
  • Normative human development;
  • An understanding of the various areas of development and their influence on one another: physical, affective, social, moral, and cognitive;
  • The ways in which gender, socio-economic status, ethnicity, culture etc. may shape one’s development;
  • Identify developmental risk factors and developmental protective factors and apply the theoretical models to real life situations.
  • Cultural competency and understanding the effects of colonization, historical trauma, and current health inequities Indigenous People face

Additional qualifications:
·Awareness of culturally relevant resources for Indigenous Peoples
·A strong commitment to advancing the calls for reconciliation through education.
