Job description

About Paxos

Today’s financial infrastructure is archaic, expensive, inefficient and risky — supporting a system that leaves out more people than it lets in. So we’re rebuilding it.

We’re on a mission to open the world’s financial system to everyone by enabling the instant movement of any asset, any time, in a trustworthy way. For over a decade, we’ve built blockchain infrastructure that tokenizes, custodies, trades and settles assets for the world’s leading financial institutions, like PayPal, Venmo, Mastercard and Interactive Brokers.

About the team

The Brokerage team at Paxos enables partners to offer seamless crypto trading and custody through a fully regulated, scalable platform. We power some of the largest fintechs and enterprises, allowing them to integrate crypto services without the complexity of building and managing their own infrastructure.

About the role

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Brokerage Engineering team at Paxos, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining high-performance, scalable, and secure crypto brokerage solutions. You will work on mission-critical systems that power billions of dollars in trading volume, ensuring top-tier broker-dealers have access to the most reliable and efficient trading infrastructure.

In this role, you will bring deep technical expertise to architect and optimize complex distributed systems, make key technical decisions, and solve challenging engineering problems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Growth, and other Engineering teams, to deliver innovative solutions that drive Paxos' market leadership in crypto brokerage. If you thrive in a fast-paced, high-impact environment and are passionate about building world-class financial infrastructure, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll do

  • Own the full software development lifecycle: Design, develop, test, and deploy high-performance, scalable brokerage solutions, ensuring reliability and efficiency for mission-critical financial systems.
  • Tackle complex technical challenges: Break down ambiguous and intricate requirements into actionable technical tasks, making data-driven decisions to optimize performance, security, and scalability.
  • Balance trade-offs effectively: Navigate key engineering trade-offs, ensuring the right balance between MVP vs. enterprise-grade, time-to-market vs. long-term scalability, and other critical factors.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with Product, Growth, and other Engineering teams to align technical solutions with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Contribute to the future of brokerage at Paxos: Play a key role in shaping the next generation of crypto brokerage solutions, ensuring they meet the highest industry standards for performance, security, and availability.

About you

  • 7+ years of software development experience, with proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Golang (preferred), Kotlin, Java, Python.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed system design.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure and tools, such as Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, and AWS services.
  • Ability to write high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a keen ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience building Compliance solutions (KYC, KYB, KYT) or onboarding or identity platforms is a huge plus.
  • A passion for learning and applying new technologies to solve real-world problems.
