Over several decades, Fugro has developed geotechnical tools and capabilities for soft soils suited to the best management of the safety of Tailings Facilities.  We continuously innovate with remote sensing technologies, advanced in-situ testing tools, and specialist samplers to meet the challenges of characterizing tailings materials.  These capabilities have allowed us to develop strong competitive positions in the minerals and metals industry in South America.    

The Sales Development Manager, Critical Minerals (Mining), North America, will be responsible for driving both sales execution and strategic business development within the critical minerals sector across North America. This role will focus on expanding Fugro’s market presence in the mining industry, with a strong focus on the Tailings Storage Facility.

The role is accountable not only for identifying and nurturing opportunities but also for ensuring high conversion rates from leads to signed contracts. Additionally, this position will play a pivotal role in long-term strategic partnerships, market expansion, and shaping Fugro’s positioning within key client organizations and industry consortia. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in business development, client engagement, commercial execution, and strategic relationship-building within the mining industry.

This opportunity can function fully remotely. Fugro will not provide relocation assistance for this job opportunity.

Base Salary Range: $153,000 – 213,000 per year

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support developing and being responsible for executing a comprehensive commercial strategy for North America, aligning with regional and global objectives.
  • Identify and prioritize high-value market opportunities across the critical minerals sector.
  • Build a structured sales funnel with clear action plans to achieve revenue and market penetration targets.
  • Proactively engage with key stakeholders in mining companies and A&E firms to track upcoming projects. Maintain close relationships with decision-makers to anticipate service needs.
  • Systematically evaluate leads based on technical feasibility, budget allocation, project timelines, and alignment with Fugro’s capabilities. Engage with internal stakeholders to validate technical fit and resource availability.
  • Develop compelling value propositions, conduct client presentations, and tailor service offerings to match project requirements.
  • Drive deal closure through strategic negotiation, contract finalization, and alignment of commercial terms. By closely managing the sales cycle and removing obstacles to closing, ensure a high conversion rate from opportunity to contract.
  • Develop and nurture strategic, long-term relationships with key mining companies and A&E firms.
  • Engage early in industry developments, regulatory shifts, and emerging market trends to position Fugro as a thought leader and trusted partner.
  • Identify new market segments and service line expansion opportunities.
  • Drive early engagement of major mining projects to position Fugro’s solutions as essential to project feasibility and risk mitigation.
  • Represent Fugro in key industry forums, associations, and conferences, reinforcing the company’s leadership in the mining sector.
  • Partner with R&D, innovation, and technology teams to ensure Fugro’s offerings evolve in line with market needs and client expectations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, engaging with clients at multiple levels to ensure Fugro’s solutions align with their strategic goals.
  • Lead account-based marketing initiatives and ensure tailored client engagement based on specific business needs.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments across the Americas.
  • Provide insights to senior leadership on emerging opportunities and risks within the mining sector.
  • Utilize CRM tools to track lead progression, conversion rates, and sales performance.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with regional business lines and service lines directors to optimize the sales pipeline and forecast revenue accurately.
  • Work closely with marketing to develop targeted campaigns based on regional market needs.
  • Partner with technical teams to ensure alignment between client requirements and Fugro’s service capabilities.
  • Coordinate with legal and finance teams to facilitate contract negotiations and approvals.
  • Regularly track and report key sales and BD metrics, including lead conversion rates, pipeline health, and revenue growth.
  • Provide data-driven insights to refine sales and BD strategies and improve overall commercial effectiveness.

Job Requirements: 

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sales, business development, and strategic market expansion within the mining industry.
  • A strong background in lead generation, qualification, conversion, and closing high-value contracts.
  • A well-established network within mining companies and A&E firms working for mining companies
  • Deep understanding of client needs and ability to provide tailored solutions.
  • Ability to develop long-term business strategies and market entry plans.
  • Strong ability to engage stakeholders and drive successful deal closures and partnerships.
  • Ability to use financial statements as a management tool to drive business decisions and strategy.
  • Possess or can obtain a valid passport and hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • This role will require frequent travel, up to 50% of the job function.
