TCGplayer, now a part of eBay, promotes and drives growth of our products and services by connecting a global community of millions of buyers with tens of thousands of retailers in a $25B global collectible hobby market.

As the FinOps Engineer, you will be the driving force behind our financial operations strategy, with a strong focus on managing and optimizing cloud costs across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other SaaS providers. This role is crucial to ensuring our organization achieves a balance of operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability in our cloud environments.  This individual will work as a part of the Cloud Architecture team that oversees the architecture and implementation of TCG’s cloud environment.  In addition to helping TCGPlayer understand the overall architecture, this team is responsible for building a system to analyze our cloud costs as well as look for ways to reduce costs.

You will collaborate closely with engineering, finance, and product teams to establish financial governance frameworks, create actionable insights, and implement cost-saving strategies. By using your expertise in cloud cost management, you will lead initiatives to forecast, analyze, and report on cloud expenditures, empowering teams to make data-driven decisions. This position combines a hands-on approach to managing cloud costs with a strategic vision for fostering a culture of financial accountability and transparency.

Our team prides itself on a culture that fosters camaraderie, embraces diversity, and exudes passion! We are one of New York State’s 50 best employers and Fortune.com’s top 100 companies for women in the U.S.

What you will accomplish:

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive FinOps strategy to manage and optimize cloud costs across AWS as well as other COTS and SaaS providers in use at TCGPlayer.

  • Build and maintain a robust financial governance framework, ensuring clear policies for cloud spend and resource utilization.

  • Create and implement cost optimization initiatives, including rightsizing, reserved instance planning, as well as other waste elimination.

  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to provide actionable recommendations for resource usage efficiency.

  • Partner with the finance team to deliver accurate cloud cost forecasting and budgeting.

  • Establish real-time reporting and dashboards to improve visibility into cloud expenditures.

  • Lead training and awareness initiatives to embed a culture of financial accountability across the organization.

  • Assist team with system tagging and tagging compliance.

  • Monitor industry trends and evolving best practices to ensure the organization remains ahead of the curve in cloud cost management

What you will bring:

  • 6 or more years experience in a FinOps or similar role, with a focus on cloud cost management (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud experience required; experience with other SaaS providers preferred)

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and optimizing cloud billing models, with a consistent track record of achieving cost savings through effective cost allocation and optimization strategies

  • Exceptional analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights. The ideal candidate will be proficient in financial modeling, cost optimization strategies, and data visualization techniques to effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience working with tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, CloudHealth, or similar FinOps platforms

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical partners

  • Familiarity with finance principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
