WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
Are you passionate about cutting-edge technology and quality assurance? As the Senior Director of Biomedical Systems Testing and Validation, you'll lead a dynamic team of engineers dedicated to maintaining the integrity of our technology systems, software, and integrations within the Business Systems Integration (BSI) team.

About You: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated leader with a background in modern software development and testing methodologies. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring our technology systems operate flawlessly and meet the highest standards.


About BSI:
The BSI team consolidates all Biomedical systems applications product management into one unit. BSI identifies top solutions to meet business needs and optimizes end-to-end processes. Partnering with Biomedical Information Technology and Business Units, BSI focuses on:
•    System strategy planning and creating a product roadmap for all Biomedical systems
•    Ensuring solutions meet business needs through continuous improvement and next-generation solutions, while maintaining quality and service delivery of blood products
•    Coordinating agile software development lifecycles
•    Assisting with the design, development, and deployment of reporting solutions for business operations

BSI manages around 100 systems across multiple value streams, covering all stages of the blood donation process from donor to recipient. These systems (SaaS, COTS, regulated, not regulated, Salesforce, homegrown, etc.) are crucial for continuous development, innovation, improvement, and problem-solving, helping the American Red Cross provide 60% of the nation’s blood supply.

The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours. 


WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
•    Provide leadership, planning, and overall management of Test Engineering staff and activities. Manage a team including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and managing performance. Manage resource allocations and coordinate staff assignments.
•    Evaluate, recommend, and implement automated testing tools and strategies. Monitor the development, maintenance, and upgrading of automated test scripts.
•    Establish testing staffing models that can scale including, but not limited to, volunteers, artificial intelligence, flex vendor engagements, and testing automation.
•    Ensure that products, applications, and systems follow established quality standards and meet requirements.
•    Oversee testing progress reporting and other documentation processes and deliverables.
•    Ensure testing efforts are completed on schedule. Manage the budget.
•    Oversee testing operations for waterfall and agile projects IT projects.
•    Develop and implement a comprehensive testing and validation strategy aligned without biomedical goals and objectives.
•    Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the testing and validation team.
•    Will be required to keep up with technology advancements and best practices in the test automation space.

Scope: people manager that interprets and administers policies, process, and procedures that may affect sections and subordinate units

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering, IT, business, or a related field (Master’s Preferred).
•    Minimum of 10 years of related IT experience with large, complex organizations.
•    10 years of progressive management/leadership experience.
•    Proven success participating in delivering complex IT-intensive, business improvement/systems integration initiatives on budget
•    Ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams through the principles and practices of Lean-Agile leadership.
•    Ability to work on a diverse team, building effective relationships with persuasively with senior leaders.
•    Works well under pressure and can lead or respond effectively to multiple changing priorities and environments.
•    Experience with automation frameworks and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
•    Ability to make decisions that produce optimal results by applying critical thinking, technical knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks.
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•    Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks efficiently.
•    Effective Management skills.
•    Ability to plan strategy and drive results.
•    Ability to be 24-hour on-call during period of major disaster.
•    Experience in testing execution and strategy in a waterfall and agile development environment.
•    Ability to travel domestically (when appropriate and required) 20-25%.


WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (preferred qualifications): 
•    Extensive experience in strategic evaluation and execution of large-scale technology-related projects.
•    Experience with application or evaluation of testing automation tools, including tools that utilize machine learning and artificial intelligence. 
•    Experience in highly regulated industries or healthcare.
•    Experience in a SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environment.
•    Experience with Agile and DevOps practices.
•    Experience in the blood collections/manufacturing industry is a plus.
•    A strategic and technical mind with a humanitarian heart.

PAY INFORMATION: 
The annual salary range for this position is $170K - $190K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. 
Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
