Salary: $67,500 - $80,000
Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM EST

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Subrogation Specialist to handle subrogation investigation and recovery for assigned workers’ compensation claims across multiple jurisdictions, including AZ, GA, IN, KS, NV, OK, SC, TX (DHS), and UT. The ideal candidate will have experience identifying legal liability, negotiating settlements, and maximizing recoveries in accordance with state laws and corporate claim standards.

 

This role requires an Adjuster’s License and offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment after training. The position also serves as an advanced training opportunity for those interested in pursuing senior-level claims roles.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify subrogation potential.
  • Investigate, evaluate and adjust subrogation claims in accordance with established claim handling standards and laws.
  • Must be able to identify legal liability and aggressively pursue at fault parties. Having general and auto Liability background is helpful.
  • Coordinate further investigative needs in conjunction with adjusters’ investigation.
  • Place all parties on notice of lien and provide periodic updates on total payout/lien.
  • Evaluate, negotiate and settle worker’s compensation subrogation claims in accordance within Corporate Claim Standards, client specific handling instructions and state laws, when appropriate.
  • Ensure maximum recovery against other responsible 3rd parties based on jurisdictional abilities as well as negotiating efforts.
  • Assist in the recovery of overpayments for duplicate coverage, workers' compensation, and no-fault claims.
  • Researches paid claims, answers inquiries, and coordinates with other departments, insurance adjustors, attorneys, and members.
  • Drafting and forwarding letters to specific State’s Attorneys requesting restitution in criminal proceedings; Upon disposition of criminal cases, if restitution is awarded, claim is documented and diary set for follow up on payments.
  • Monitor statutes of limitations and evaluate, prepare and refer to subrogation counsel for civil filings as appropriate.
  • Assist subrogation counsel as needed.
  • Assist in the selection, referral and supervision of designated multi-line claim files sent to outside vendors. (i.e. legal, surveillance, case management, etc.)
  • Review and maintain personal diary on claim system.
  • Client satisfaction.
  • Prepare reports detailing claim status, payments and reserves, as requested.
  • Effective and timely coordination of communication with clients, claimants and appropriate parties throughout the claim adjustment process.
  • Provide notices of qualifying claims to excess/reinsurance carriers.
  • Handle more complex and involved subrogation claims than lower level claim positions with minimum supervision.
  • Conduct claim reviews and/or training sessions for designated clients, as requested.
  • Attend and participate at hearings, mediations, and informal legal conferences, as appropriate.
  • Compliance with Corporate Claim Handling Standards and special client handling instructions as established.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • 5+ years of experience in general liability and workers’ compensation claims, with a strong background in subrogation.

  • Strong investigative and negotiation skills with the ability to identify legal liability.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and claims management systems.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience handling multi-jurisdictional subrogation claims.

  • Background in auto liability investigation.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to assess complex claim situations.
