About the Role

As the Director of Accounting (Controller), you will report to the VP of Finance. In this role, you will be a key player in leading Subsplash through our next stage of growth. You will be a hands-on leader who will drive scale for the accounting function. You will mentor and manage the accounting team and be responsible for all accounting operations. External parties and internal stakeholders will depend on you and your team to deliver timely, accurate, and meaningful financial reporting. You will lead consolidations, equity accounting, and investor due diligence requests. You will develop and implement the systems, processes, and internal controls that will keep the company thriving for years to come.

Your Priorities

People Management (20%)

  • Mentor & manage Accounting Team: on-the-job coaching, career development, performance management, team structure planning
  • Set priorities for the Accounting Team: managing deadlines & team capacity
  • Drive long-range planning for Accounting Team and support broader Finance department roadmap

Core Financial Reporting (40%)

  • Lead accounting functions, including the month-end close process, accounting system administration, financial reporting, ASC 606 revenue recognition, intangible assets, accounts payable, and payroll accounting
  • Prepare timely, accurate, and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis 
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations
  • Retain constant awareness of the company’s financial position, acting to minimize risks and maximize opportunities 
  • Manage day-to-day cash operations and disbursements
  • Support review and accounting for payroll processing 
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive payroll, equity, and financial information 
  • Partner with tax leader to ensure compliance with local, state and federal government reporting requirements
  • Perform equity accounting for stock compensation and equity transactions
  • Develop and maintain procedures and internal controls for accounting functions and where applicable, billing functions

Builder of Scale in Financial Reporting (20%)

  • Lead accounting integrations, ASC 805 valuations, and consolidations for acquired companies 
  • Identify and implement systems and processes needed to scale the accounting function and, as applicable, broader finance function 
  • Partner with billing, client operations, and financial planning teams to scale and optimize revenue recognition and reporting
  • Collaborate with the broader Finance leadership to inform and ensure adherence to the technical accounting requirements of any new revenue line, product offering, financial transaction, etc.with
  • Partner with other departments to ensure timely, accurate, and meaningful delivery of financial information
  • Collaborate with other Finance leaders to build frameworks that support monthly department P&L budget-to-actuals comparison
  • Identify opportunities to drive EBITDA and revenue growth

Manage External Stakeholder Projects & Relationships (20%)

  • Lead external financial relationships with banks, auditors, credit card company, key vendors, etc.
  • Lead preparation for external audits & coordinate with auditors in order to ensure adherence to GAAP, adopting updated standards as applicable
  • Manage bank relationship including access level & control implementation
  • Ensure compliance with bank covenants & reporting requirements
  • Lead preparation of 409A valuation 
  • Manage accounting & diligence requirements for debt and equity transactions
  • Respond to investor requests as needed 
  • Work on other special projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

Manage the Accounting team of 3-5 direct reports

 

Required Education and Experience
  • 10+ years of professional experience, 5-7+ years of experience in accounting management 
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA license 
  • Strong experience with full-cycle accounting processes & financial statement audits
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition and its application to a SAAS business
  • Experience at a $50M+ revenue company
  • Leadership

    • Ability to mentor team members to develop future leaders for our next round of scale

Desired Qualifications
  • SAAS & Payment Processing experience strongly preferred
  • Buy-side mergers & acquisition + integration experience strongly preferred
  • Sell-side diligence & transaction experience preferred
  • Private Equity or Venture Capital backed experience strongly preferred; public company experience is a plus
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of equity accounting (options, stock compensation, buy/sell transactions) preferred
  • Preferred systems experience: Netsuite, Stripe, Salesforce

Compensation

The overall compensation for this role will be between $160,000-200,000/yr.

Location

Subsplash currently has operations in 27 states across the US! As much as we would love to have employees in as many states and countries as we have clients, we are currently limiting hiring to the states we already operate in. As a result of that, this role is only available as a 100% remote position if you reside in one of the following states: 

AL, AR, AZ, CO, FL, GA, ID, IA, IN, KS, KY, MO, MI, MN, NC, NM, OK, OH, OR, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WY.

This position is classified as Full-time/Exempt and therefore is eligible for overtime pay.
