About ARTC

ARTC is a vital link in the nation’s transport supply chain – maintaining and operating the national rail network to connect our regions, cities and ports. Our people manage the transit of more than 410 freight and passenger trains every day, making us one of the largest rail network managers in Australia. Our 8,500km network spans five states (SA, VIC, NSW, QLD and WA) and the lands of more than 50 First Nations, with our team spread across six offices (Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle and Wagga Wagga), 28 Provisioning Centres in regional and urban areas, and three Network Control Centres (Mile End SA, Junee NSW and Broadmeadow NSW).

About The Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Network Controller is responsible for controlling and monitoring rail traffic movements across ARTC’s extensive rail track network. While maintaining a safety-first mentality, this role will involve monitoring the train control system and performing signaller functions, as well as recording rolling stock movements and issuing work on track authorities.

  • Safely control and record the movement of trains and track vehicles over specific sections of ARTC’s railway network in accordance with safe networking practices.
  • Comply with safe working requirements, codes of practice, procedures, and processes. Answer and respond to emergencies and irregularities in line with regulations and best safe working practice.
  • Relay and issue instructions to drivers and other track staff.
  • Ensure compliance with train and other relevant notices regarding alterations and additions to signalling, safe work practices and rollingstock.
  • Work cooperatively with drivers and other staff to ensure prompt reaching of destinations.
  • Work cooperatively with adjoining Network Controllers and adjoining track owners to facilitate the safe transit of trains and track work across boundaries.
