Field Quality Engineer

Location: Remote -CA Based

Job Summary:

The Field Quality Engineer develops and implements programs to improve field quality and performance by field technicians. Field quality is critical to customer satisfaction and Haven’s success. Help us change how the world is powered by joining a team committed to improving field quality and technician performance in the field. The Field Quality Engineer at Haven is responsible for developing programs that track and improve the performance of Subcontractor field technicians. They’ll develop Job Close Out (JCO) systems, audit JCOs, collect data and conduct field quality audits, interviews, surveys, and other sources. They’ll deliver metrics and reports to Subcontractors, internal customers and collaborate with other teams to recommend solutions to drive improvements. And they’ll develop training, process controls, and product improvements that will drive improved field quality. This job will support Subcontractors throughout the United States, and candidates will work remotely. Travel elsewhere in the US may be required.

This is a hands-on quality role requiring an entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to thrive in ambiguity, and the skills to build scalable, cost-effective processes in a fast-paced environment.


What You’ll Do:

  • Installation and Quality Standards
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the company’s installation standards to align with industry and OEM requirements
  • Establish and optimize operational processes to ensure the quality of installed projects, from development through construction and longer-term monitoring, servicing and customer support
  • Generate process maps, procedures, and related documentation
  • Technical Training
  • Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Haven teams and customer support personnel to identify learning and training opportunities
  • Oversee the development, planning, execution, and monitoring of solar training to ensure it is on-time, compliant with requirements and the delivery is high quality
  • Champion skills-based certification for Subcontractor field teams
  • Field Quality
  • Develop and implement a Job Close Out (JCO) process that includes defining the JCO requirements, documenting and training to these requirements, auditing JCOs and providing feedback to Subcontractors as required
  • Develop and implement a program for field quality and improvement that incorporates measurement, observation, tracking, training, and closed loop learning
  • Develop targets and methods for evaluating field quality and technician performance
  • Develop and maintain systems for measuring and tracking field quality, including an Installer Quality Management (IQM) scorecard and feedback process
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Relations
  • Oversee relationships with installation subcontractors, and equipment suppliers to maintain quality and cost controls
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track project performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Receive feedback from Subcontractors and present recommendations to Haven leadership
  • Cultivate strong relationships with Subcontractors and provide technical consultation and escalation assistance when required
  • Continual Improvement
  • Identify and implement new technologies and operational processes to enhance quality and scalability.
  • Identify and promote opportunities for product improvements, ergonomics, and/or third-party solutions that can improve field quality
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the organization.


Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or course work augmented by equivalent experience. NABCEP and/or other industry certification. Master Electrician or another industry-related licensure
  • 5+ years in solar or construction, with 2+ years working in a semi-autonomous manner
  • 2+ years generating and delivering training content
  • 2+ years performing analytics or statistical analysis
  • 2+ years managing personnel or supplier/subcontractor relationships
  • Proven success scaling and managing solar install operations
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Deep understanding of distributed generation development processes, including permitting, interconnection, construction and operations.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code as it relates to solar and storage. Proficiency in navigating and applying electrical and building codes and standards
  • Excellent driving record and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)background check
  • Experience working with licensed contractors
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
