Job description

This is a remote position.

A leading business skills training provider is seeking a proactive and creative Learning Content Developer for a full-time, 24-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of full-time employment upon successful completion. For candidates based in Cape Town, the role is hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days working from home). For candidates located outside of Cape Town, the role will be fully remote. Working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some micro-flexibility.

The Learning Content Developer will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality learning materials for various qualifications, including occupational qualifications, part qualifications, unit standard-based qualifications, and skills programmes. The primary focus will be on creating content for occupational qualifications and skills programs registered with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

This role will involve collaborating with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and ensuring that all learning materials meet accreditation and industry standards. Candidates will be required to complete a writing assignment to assess their ability to work with or analyse a curriculum, as well as evaluate their writing skills and creativity.


Responsibilities

Design and Development of Learning Materials:
  • Develop comprehensive Learning Programme Frameworks, detailing the learning objectives, content, and assessment criteria for each learning programme.
  • Create Alignment Matrices to ensure all materials align with the curriculum for each respective qualification.
  • Prepare Learning Programme Induction/Overview Guides to orient learners and facilitators to the programme's objectives and expectations.
  • Develop Learner and Facilitator Guides for each learning unit, supporting learners and facilitators throughout the learning journey.
  • Design Internal Formative and Summative Assessment Guides, including learner workbooks and assessor guidelines.
  • Create mock examinations for preparing learners for final assessments.
  • Develop Workplace Experience Guides and Logbooks to track learners’ practical experience.
  • Design Facilitator PowerPoint Presentations to aid in training delivery.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout the learning material development process.
Project Planning and Scheduling:
  • Create a Project Plan and Schedule for the timely development of learning materials, outlining key milestones and deadlines.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure resources are available and aligned with project timelines.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Ensure that all learning materials comply with relevant accreditation requirements from bodies such as QCTO and SETA.
  • Conduct quality checks and revisions to ensure accuracy, alignment with learning outcomes, and adherence to educational standards.


Requirements


Work Experience and Industry Exposure:
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in learning material development, ideally in a skills development provider environment.
  • Proven experience in developing learning materials aligned with NQF and QCTO standards.
  • Experience in working with occupational qualifications and/or skills programs curricula registered with QCTO.
  • Knowledge and experience in the credit, banking, and debt collections industries would be advantageous.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Relevant certifications in instructional design, content development, or e-learning.
  • National Certificate in OD ETD Practices (NQF Level 5) – advantageous.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe InDesign.
