Position Summary:

The Senior Development Manager, Prospect Management is part of the Development Operations team and provides a strategic vision for the design, execution, and tracking of the prospect management program to support the efficient movement of major and principal gifts through the engagement cycle. The position partners with fundraising leadership to implement and track portfolio and pipeline management and works closely with Development and IT partners to implement prospect management tools, systems, and policies. They are a subject matter expert for Audubon’s prospect and portfolio management, including prospect management tracking and reporting with the Salesforce CRM.

Salary range based on geo-differentials:

  • $89,650 - $100,857 / year = National

  • $100,854 - $113,460 / year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY

  • $112,065 - $126,073 / year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Design and implement strategic portfolio management to ensure the right prospects are under management in partnership with Development leadership and frontline fundraisers.

  • Drive fundraiser proficiency in the use of prospect management systems and tools through training sessions and outreach that ensure compliance with prospect management policies and procedures.

  • Act as a point person for prospect research and management training across the Development team, particularly when onboarding new team members and executing new processes & policies owned by Development Operations.

  • Create, promote, and apply data-driven segmentation and data mining tools to identify and prioritize managed and unmanaged pipelines, executing ratings, scores, and other segmentation tools with Development Operations and Prospect Research.

  • Direct the execution of Audubon’s prospect management program, implementing, overseeing, and reporting on processes for moves management, portfolio management, and fundraiser performance assessment.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on the utilization of in-house tools and systems that drive efficient and data-informed fundraising.

  • Lead regular portfolio review meetings, create accompanying data, and advise on the use of relevant Salesforce reports, dashboards, and other tools.

  • Monitor the prospect tracking and moves management systems.

  • Function as the lynchpin between the Development and Tech teams to maintain and improve the prospect management system through database cleanup and modifications needed to support effective and accurate tracking, reporting, and analysis.

  • Steer frontline fundraisers in the capture of all necessary data in the system including activities/contact reports, biographical information, engagement plans, and qualification status.

  • Assist on prospect research.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for program improvements to meet the needs of an expanding Development team.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, and a minimum of seven years of prospect management or related experience in prospect research, data analytics, database management, and reporting, preferably at a complex fundraising organization. Must have comprehensive knowledge of current Development methodologies. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of prospect management principles, practices, and tools of the trade, including related equity, diversity, and inclusion best practices.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining a prospect management program, including reporting, evaluating, analyzing, and presenting data insights.

  • Exceptional computer and technology skills that include Microsoft Office and databases, primarily Salesforce.

  • Excellent communication, organization, analytical, time management, and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to be timely, thorough, accurate, and detail-oriented, while managing multiple projects.

  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team, as well as to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities.

  • Client-focused, service-oriented, collaborative, creative, resourceful, ethical, flexible and good-natured, with solid interpersonal, communication, and negotiating skills.

  • The ability to interact effectively with both authority and diplomacy and elicit cooperation from colleagues.

  • Knowledge of prospect development ethics and confidentiality, and commitment to professional development.

  • Knowledge about birds is not required, though experience with and a commitment to conservation is a positive.
