Job description

Overview 

The Experienced Underwriter (EU) ensures that all applications are complete and complies with our compliance and other established guidelinesThis includes analyzing financial documents such as bank statements and credit reports to assess creditworthiness and risk, while leveraging third-party risk management databases to identify and document potential risks. 

 

The EU also involves conducting online business verifications and virtual site inspections using tools like Google Maps to validate business addresses. Additionally, the EU reviews and verifies all entered data, making informed decisions to approve, decline, or hold files based on risk tolerance and organizational policies. 

 

Responsibilities:   

  • Assesses and evaluates funding applications submitted by small and mid-sized businesses, ensuring completeness and accuracy. - 10% 
  • Analyzes bank statements, credit reports, and other relevant documentation to determine creditworthiness and risk. - 25% 
  • Utilizes third-party risk management databases to investigate businesses and thoroughly document any identified risks. - 25% 
  • Conducts online verification of businesses and performs virtual site inspections by utilizing tools like Google Maps to validate business addresses. - 20% 
  • Reviews and verifies all entered data to ensure accuracy, then makes informed decisions to approve, decline, or hold files in accordance with established guidelines and risk tolerance. - 10% 
  • Communicates with internal teams and external partners via written and verbal channels to ensure timely decisions and meet deadlines. Resolve conflicts as needed to maintain smooth operations - 10% 

 

Reports to: Underwriting Team Lead 

Interacts with: Underwriting and Sales Departments

Education and Functional Experience   

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. 
  • At least 3 years of experience in underwriting or a related financial role.   

Behavioral/Skill Requirements 

  • Strong understanding of bank statements, credit reports, and risk evaluation metrics. 
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. 
  • Proficiency in database management and document processing.  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.  
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams. 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)  

  • Productivity- Consistently archiving monthly quota  
  • Error Rate – Must keep error rate below the acceptable range.  
  • Service Level Agreements (SLA) - Consistently meet SLAs for Processing Time and Communication
