Weekend News Editor
About The Role:
This assignment posting is for an Agency Worker opportunity with Dotdash Meredith. The Agency Worker is paid by a staffing agency employer. Agency Workers will receive a W2 from the staffing agency reporting their earnings for tax purposes.
Dotdash Meredith is looking for a weekend news editor for Allrecipes.com. As a news editor, you will work across breaking news content, editing and building news stories in the CMS, ensuring factual accuracy, performing rewrites as needed, and otherwise confirming that copy is clean and correct. Occasionally, assigning content to writers or writing articles yourself will be required. 
Assignment Responsibilities:
We are looking for a news editor who can commit to 40 hours of work per week. The rate for this role is $28-$30/hour.  Due to the nature of this role, which is across breaking news, we are hoping to find candidates with availability during daytime hours Thursday through Monday. Applicants must live in the United States. 
Start date: ASAP
End date: 6 month assignment with potential to extend
In this role, you will: 
  • Edit, produce, and publish articles for our news & trending team
  • Attend content meetings 3 days per week 
  • Occasionally assign articles to staff and/or freelance writers
Skills/Experience:
  • At least 3 years experience editing in the food and beverage space, preferably for a digital brand
  • Experience in the news space, especially editing experience, strongly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of cooking, recipes, and different kinds of cuisines 
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of and experience in implementing SEO best practices
  • You’re able to easily adopt an established brand voice, and you adhere to strict brand and style guidelines like a pro
  • Comfortable with content management systems
  • Detail-oriented and able to work efficiently, independently, and accurately
  • You are comfortable working remotely
  • You have access to a smartphone, computer (not a tablet), and a secure internet connection
  • Photoshop skills a plus
