Associate Underwriter!
About The Role
You will gain basic knowledge of risk-based underwriting for new and/or existing accounts. Work towards being accountable for achievement of profit, persistency, and growth goals.
You will apply training and demonstrate a baseline level of proficiency in risk evaluation and pricing. Underwrite new business accounts for Excess Loss typically under $500,000 in premium and under $2,500,000 attachment point. Provide support to underwriters by pre-screening cases, analyzing claims data and processing sold cases.
What You'll Do In This Role
- Develop basic understanding of Excess Loss products, pricing, philosophies and underwriting guidelines.
- Obtain knowledge and ability to negotiate pricing and product variations with sales force.
- Gain ability to analyze various reports, data, and other information to properly access risk
- New Business Pricing - review Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions including verifying integrity of claims data and plan information and requesting additional information as needed.
- Develop and communicate new business rate recommendations in accordance with pricing targets and level of authority. Quote authority limit of $500K in premium and $2.5M aggregate attachment point.
- Process sold accounts and renewals following established procedures.
- Relationships - Develop and maintain positive relationships with Symetra sales, field and home office service and actuarial teams.
- Effective written and verbal communications.
- Projects and Reporting - participate in projects and training initiatives as assigned. Complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

Compensation
Salary Range: $53,000- $88,400 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

- Ability to make effective decisions within authority limits and recommendation if outside of authority limits. Service oriented with commitment to meet deadlines.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a team environment.
- High School diploma or equivalent experience required
