Job description

About the Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.

A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.

Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet the Team:

We’re looking for software engineering professionals to join a team focused on monitoring and assisting our fleet of autonomous driving vehicles while on missions. As a software engineer, you will be responsible for creating full-stack solutions hosted on cloud services focused on visualizations for remote assistance. We collaborate frequently in many different forms including daily stand-ups, planning meetings, and many ad-hoc discussions/brainstorming/troubleshooting/pairing sessions over zoom or slack. Our team is operationally responsible for the services we own, so we gather and report on metrics and have an on-call rotation in place where each member will take a turn serving as the front-line to incidents for our services. Rotations last a week each, during business hours.

What You'll Do:

  • Ensure the technical excellence of the solutions that your team is responsible for and guide the integration of those solutions within the portfolio of Torc’s products.
  • Treat coding as an art form that is characterized by clarity, efficiency, and adherence to best practices. You develop and refine your team’s applicable coding standards and processes and ensure that the team’s deliveries adhere to those standards and processes
  • Lead the advancement of automated testing to ensure that the team’s software meets high quality standards.
  • Document meticulously and capture the design decisions that contributed to the architecture so future maintainers can quickly grasp the intent of the code.
  • Collaborate with team members to help integrate their contributions into the larger units of the team’s software.
  • Enforce software development best practices for the team, improving quality, efficiency, and accuracy of the team’s work.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • BS/MS Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in Industry or Graduate School
  • Proficiency in cloud services and architectures (AWS, Azure)
  • Proficiency in current web technologies (HTML5/CSS/JavaScript/JSON)
  • Proficiency in development and troubleshooting of JavaScript libraries such as React
  • Proficiency using version control and CI/CD systems (Git)
  • Test automation principles and design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
  • A strong willingness to learn and work with new tools.

Bonus Points!

  • Experience working with high-level languages (C++, Python)
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure at scale (AWS, Terraform)
  • Proficiency in Linux platforms (Ubuntu, Centos)
  • Experience in robotic systems
  • Experience in IoT solutions and protocols (WebRTC, MQTT)
  • Experience in 3D rendering (Three.js, Deck.gl)
