SCOPE:

The Region Director of Philanthropy (RDOP) is responsible for rapidly growing and raising significant new revenue for the March of Dimes through individual and major gifts.  The position works collaboratively with national, regional, and market leadership and staff to ensure that the March of Dimes mission and fundraising objectives are met.

With progressively larger fundraising goals, the position is responsible for driving $1M in revenue by year 3.  Principle responsibilities in this role include direct and indirect revenue development through planning, individual and major giving, Fund the Mission, donor stewardship, and modeling best practices through donor face to face visits. RDOPs will teach best practices on moves management, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

The RDOP works in a matrix structure and is held accountable to achieving results through influencing and leading others.  The position is responsible for partnering with nearly half of the March of Dimes markets in major metros across the United States and serving as a coach to multiple levels of staff in each market (Market Leaders, Sr. Directors, Directors, Sr. Managers and Managers).  The RDOP also serves as a key partner to region Associate Vice Presidents.  The RDOP is the business partner to approximately 15 markets and 30-40 staff.

Over time, RDOPs also will build their own portfolio of donors, which will come from the Direct Response and Mid-Level giving programs, centralized geography, referrals, lapsed donors, Market staff and volunteers, and other means.

Through both their own and others’ portfolios, the RDOP will raise unrestricted funds as well as revenue for research, a venture philanthropy fund, mobile health, NICU Family Support and other mission initiatives.

This position reports to the VP of Major, Principal and Planned Giving and is a remote position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Annual Prospect and Revenue Planning

  • In conjunction with the Market Leaders and Directors of Campaign Excellence, support the development of donor-centric Individual Giving plans to achieve annual fundraising goals within and outside of Event Campaigns and through Major Gifts. The plan is to include:
    • Prospect identification and qualification
    • A year-round timeline of personalized cultivation and stewardship with a focus on upgrading annual, mid-level, major, and special event donors
    • Cultivation plans for individual asks of Executive Leadership Team members
    • A specific Fund the Mission lead gifts plan and pipeline for each market
    • Prospects outside of Event Campaigns for unrestricted and mission- based gifts.
  • Work with markets to utilize wealth screening information to inform the prospect identification processes
  • Work with VP of Major Gifts, AVP, Market Leaders, Directors of Campaign Excellence, and Market staff regularly and year-round to execute the overall Individual Giving Plan.

Donor Cultivation and Solicitation

  • In conjunction with national and market partners execute plans to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward donor prospects who have capacity for five-, six-, and seven figure gifts.
  • Over time, build own portfolio of prospects from a variety of channels:
    • Newly launched Mid-Level program that focuses on donors from the Direct Marketing channel
    • Centralized geography
    • Referrals
    • Others
  • Prepare written materials, including correspondence, briefing materials, solicitation proposals, impact reports, thank you letters, and other items to drive major giving results.
  • Secure current and deferred gifts of assets from March of Dimes' most passionate supporters
  • Utilize CRM system to manage the relationship building process and support the business process of individual giving by tracking interactions and strategies for prospects and donors.

Donor Stewardship

  • Work with market leaders to regularly provide mission and organization information to donors and prospects based on their areas of interest.
  • Ensure six-figure donors in the markets and in personal portfolio have annual stewardship plans; execute on plans and adjust as needed.
  • Plan and implement effective cultivation and recognition events in association with March of Dimes colleagues, mission partners, and volunteers to enhance the connection and involvement of prospects and donors with March of Dimes.

Coaching and Training

  • Coach market staff regularly in 1:1 and team interactions on moves management, deepening donor relationships, major and planned gifts best practices, pivoting conversations to personal giving, securing gifts of current and deferred assets, and engagement of volunteers in major and planned giving work.
  • Participate in the development and deployment of group training for major giving, planned giving, and stewardship as needed.
  • Train market boards and committee members on major and planned gifts best practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 8-10 years experience
  • Four year college degree or equivalent
