Job Summary:
The Controller is responsible for supporting the organization's financial well-being by providing financial reporting and accounting services, preparing growth plans, and directing staff. The Controller directs and coordinates financial affairs according to financial principles and government regulations. The Controller supports the CFO with financial and operational strategies by forecasting cash requirements and staff needs, identifying monetary resources, and developing action plans. The Controller is also responsible for providing financial analysis of operations by evaluating trends, studying revenue opportunities and critical measurements, accumulating resources, and resolving problems.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensures that adequate internal controls are in place and ensures compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Ensures compliance with contract requirements regarding timekeeping, invoicing, and project financial reporting.
- Supports General Managers/Project Managers with project financial reporting monthly or as otherwise needed.
- Month-end reporting, annual audit review, and special projects as assigned.
- Manage accounting system controls and internal audits to ensure the accurate and timely production of accounting information and financial reports.
- Monitors financial performance, assesses the corporation's liabilities and investments for financial risk, and suggests investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks.
- Recommends changes and ideas to CFO /VPO regarding policies and procedures and assists in their implementation.
- Review staff work product to include invoicing, cash receipts, payroll, job cost reports, etc.
- Mentor and develop staff.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; extensive experience working in a similar capacity may be substituted for a degree.
- Minimum eight years of professional financial management experience in a related field.
- Minimum five years in government contracting.
- Expert in Deltek Cost Point in a government contracting environment is required.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Ability to handle highly sensitive, confidential information and situations.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be proficient in basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Participate and contribute to strategic planning efforts to establish the company's growth targets and performance goals.
- Assist in needed Business Development support to provide subject matter expertise in both opportunity development and project support
- Accountable for supporting ISO and CMMI systems and how their performance contributes to your achievement and the achievement of ISO and CMMI compliance across the organization.
- Report any issue they see or perceive to be a deterrent to quality and our ISO and CMMI compliance.
- Look for improvement opportunities for ISO and CMMI systems and bring those to management's attention.
