The Role 

The Category Development Manager performs a valuable role in building strong partnerships both internally & externally on behalf of the company, its customers & its brands: 

  • Internally:  leading the development and sharing of Category Management foundations and directives throughout the organization
  • Externally:  with Nelsons key retailers by developing & implementing specific programs to deliver against category & customer priorities. 

What you'll be doing

  • Establish clear Category Management directives for Nelsons brands based on market performance, industry trends & consumer insights by collaborating with various third-party data sources and constructing dynamic presentations around key consumer trends that are driving the category dynamics.
  • This individual will be our expert for accessing internal knowledge and external data sources and translating it into action to identify opportunities in the assigned retailer and facilitating solution development with the account team and other team members.
  • Prioritize cross-functional partnerships across the business to ensure 360-view applied to customer planning for optimum success
  • Present analytical findings to internal teams
  • Shelving guidelines/best practices – Establish and deliver best-in-class merchandising recommendations while working closely with the Trade Marketing manager to enhance and develop point of sale material portfolio.
  • Influence the customer by identifying specific opportunities within the retailer based on competitive trends
  • Research and lead projects to deliver category solutions benefitting both the customer and the category
  • Analytical foundations – Develop standardized category review templates for Category Development team to populate and deliver to accounts.
  • Management of data tools – Optimization of category management tools – assortment and space management
  • SKU prioritization, rationalization & projection methodology – Develop and employ standardized processes for SKU rationalization and new item projections.
  • Advanced Consumer Data (Market Research, Consumer Decision Tree, Household Panel Data, SPINs/Nielsen Data Retrieval/Analysis)
  • Sales projections methodology and communication

Requirements

What you'll bring

  • Prior experience working with SPINS, IRI/Nielsen syndicated, and panel data required
  • Experience working alongside national retailers and building successful partnerships
  • Prior experience working directly with account teams preferred
  • The ability to work well in a team environment and have a demonstrated ability to operate at all levels within an organization
  • Bachelor's degree required 
  • Extensive, relevant syndicated data background (Nielsen/IRI/SPINS) experience required.
  • Minimum 5 Years of Consumer-Packaged Goods, preferably FMCG. Industry Experience, primarily Category Management driven
