Drawing upon an extensive knowledge base, we develop, engineer, and build renewable energy projects.  The Interconnection and Transmission team is looking for a talented Senior Manager to help support the efforts of our fast-growing company. Adapture Renewables is owned by KIRKBI – the private holding and investment company of the Kirk Kristiansen family founded to build a sustainable future for the LEGO® brand through generations.

Overview

This position will work in our Interconnection and Transmission department to provide business development, interconnection insights, strategic system analysis and modeling support for the interconnection of utility-scale projects within designated regions of North America.   This role is focused on identifying optimal strategies for interconnecting projects to the electric grid based on curtailment profile, interconnection costs, system impact assessments, real-time energy pricing, and market delivery options. In addition, the ideal candidate will support the engineering team in minimizing cost to interconnection utility scale projects. This position will report directly to the VP, Interconnection and Transmission. The candidate may be based remotely in the U.S., with periodic travel to our Bay Area home office and other company locations.

 

Core Responsibilities
  • Analyze optimal locations on the grid to interconnect through customary quantitative modeling (ex. SCED, power flow, etc.) as well as qualitative research.
  • Define Interconnection strategies for each market, with a clear and concise timeline to achieve successful interconnection.
  • Develop key relationships with utilities and market stakeholders.
  • Perform transmission assessments to determine commercial viability of potential projects and estimate costs of required transmission system upgrades.
  • Support and lead project due diligence efforts, identify existing and potential red flags for project acquisitions and existing pipeline projects.
  • Communicate project’s interconnection requirements, risks and opportunities to Project Development lead; support pipeline and risk reviews to assess project viability.
  • Evaluate high-level cost and schedule for various grid interconnection options and provide recommendations for optimized solutions.
  • Prepare and submit interconnection applications for Solar PV, PV + Battery and standalone battery storage projects.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • BS Electrical Engineering. - Master’s Degree in Power Systems is preferred.
  • 7-10 years of engineering background with 5 years’ in utility scale electrical power systems. 3+ year of experience in grid interconnection integration of power producer resources in transmission level systems.
  • Understanding of the relationship between transmission planning and grid operations (e.g., the interplay between reliability and price formation).
  • Experience with PSS/E, MUST, TARA, PowerWorld or similar power flow software required.
  • Production costs and market simulation software (PROMOD, UPlan, Gridview, Aurora/Plexos etc.) experience a plus.
  • Experience modeling and simulating GIA upgrade costs is a strong plus.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Strong background in interconnection facility, high voltage substation, and transmission line design considerations.
  • Experience with transmission and distribution interconnection tariffs with a focus on interconnection procedures, studies, and planning process.
  • Track record of developing, communicating, and implementing innovative solutions and strategies.
  • Provide guidance on the technical aspects of grid interconnection for renewable power plants for the following project phases: development, design, construction, commissioning up to the commercial operation.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Excel, Word, Power Point).
