POSITION OVERVIEW

The Sr. Director of Data Center Project Development will lead a sub-region and portfolio of sites working with the cross-functional team to identify locations and sites of interest for data centers, establish agreements and build relationships with landowners, economic development officials, power grid and energy companies, telecommunications companies and government officials, data center developers, as well as data center providers. You will lead discussions for purchase and lease agreements with these key stakeholders such as managing a broad range of compliance issues, site/infrastructure development strategy, and milestone tracking. This position is expected to travel up to 50% of the time. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Partnership Development: Identify and cultivate relationships with companies seeking to build data centers. Act as the primary point of contact, understanding their needs and presenting tailored renewable energy solutions.

Project Management: Oversee the preparation of land and provisioning of utilities (solar energy, water, fiber, etc.) to ensure readiness for data center construction. Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to meet project milestones and deadlines.

Leadership: Develop and execute sales strategies to attract and secure clients for data center projects. Drive revenue growth through effective sales techniques and strategic market positioning. Lead other aspects of data center projects as a whole.

Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape. Use insights to inform business development strategies and enhance the company’s market position.

Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with various stakeholders, including utilities, local communities, financial investors, and other partners to facilitate project development and execution.

Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations for power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other contracts, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with regulatory requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) is preferred.

Minimum of 12+ years of experience in business development, complex negotiations, or a related role within the Data Center sector.

Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects and closing high-value deals.

Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams including development, engineering or project management.

Prior functional and/or direct management experience is preferred

Strong understanding of the data center market, including industry trends and competitive landscape.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to travel as needed (up to 50%)
