Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to provide advanced accounting support to a Canadian accounting firm and its clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in financial reporting, tax compliance, and payroll management. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting:

Prepare and review detailed financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian GAAP.
Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support client decision-making.

Tax Compliance:

Prepare and review GST/HST filings and ensure timely submission.
Manage corporate tax returns and year-end tax filings in compliance with Canadian regulations.
Assist clients with tax planning and advisory services.

Payroll Management:

Process payroll for clients using tools like QuickBooks Payroll, Ceridian, or ADP.
Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll laws, including T4 and ROE preparation.
Handle payroll reconciliations and employee benefits administration.

Client Support:

Act as a primary contact for clients, addressing inquiries and providing expert financial guidance.
Maintain strong client relationships by delivering timely and accurate services.
Recommend process improvements and technology solutions to clients for efficiency.

Process Optimization:

Implement best practices in accounting workflows to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Leverage tools like Dext, Hubdoc, or Bill.com to automate and streamline processes.
Stay updated on changes in Canadian accounting and tax regulations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred.
5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong background in Canadian accounting and tax compliance.
Advanced proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, and payroll systems like Ceridian or ADP.
Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax laws, and payroll regulations.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated home office setup.

Preferred but Not Required

Familiarity with tools like Dext, Hubdoc, and Bill.com.
Experience working with multiple clients or industries.
Proven ability to provide tax advisory and financial planning support.
