Business Unit - Diagnostic Laboratory Operations

Purpose of the main job

To train/ advise  cytogenetics team on the karyotype analysis and nomenclature as per ISCN 2020. Will be involved in checking the karyotype images, assessing the team’s results and confirming the same in timely manner. Will be involved in reporting out Karyotype and FISH (if applicable) on daily basis as per mutual agreement. Expected to carry out all responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices. Always ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Other responsibilities include mentoring employees for Karyotype analysis and nomenclature; evaluate performance of junior personnel for karyotyping and nomenclature, ensure accurate clinical samples reporting and successful proficiency testing.

Main responsibilities
  • Checking karyotype images and advising the results
  • Checking karyotype images and confirm team’s results and nomenclature
  • Ensure ICSN nomenclature is followed appropriately for all cases reported out
  • Trouble Shooting for wetlab as required.
  • Finalizing and reporting the cases for karyotyping (as mutually agreed).
  • Work timing would be based on either
    • Minimum cases per day as per mutually agreed terms
    • Minimum time of 2 to 3 hrs per day as mutually agreed
  • Training the team to be competent in identification and representing the karypotype abnormalities as per ISCN 2020
  • Physical presence may be needed for specific audits
  • Maintain proposed TAT for tests – Karyotyping. Prioritize urgent Reports when necessary.

REQUIRED COMPETENCE

Education -  Ph.D. in genetics/ human genetics/ biomedical genetics with experience of 5+ years in analysis and reporting karyotypes or M.B.B.S., M.D., (Pathology) with Cytogenetics reporting experience of at least 3 years

Preferable: Proven Proficiency in cytogenetics karyotype reporting as per latest ISCN guidelines

Required work experience related to position

  • Experience in signing out reports and authorized by NABL for cytogenetics reporting- including constitutional, prenatal and oncology segments
  • Handling CAP and other EQAS Proficiency testing/ reporting successfully
  • 10 plus years’ experience in field of Cytogenetics analysis and reporting

Special requirements / Skills / Attributes
  • Experience in successful CAP PT Responsible for TAT for patient reports.

Competency Required
Must be technical sound with proven experience in handling complex karyotype results successfully via CAP or other external assessments
