Job description

Contractor – Computational Biology Student

Salary: SGD 1,000 per month

PacBio (NASDAQ: PACB) is a premier life science technology company that is designing, developing, and manufacturing advanced sequencing solutions to enable the promise of genomics to better human health. 

The Computational Biology team supports the company mission by developing easy-to-use bioinformatics solutions that will deliver full-featured genomes, transcriptomes and methylomes using the best-in-class long-reads sequencing data. Our team works closely with customers and the scientific community to continually identify and solve the most impactful genomics problems. Through collaborations, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications, we represent the externally visible scientific face of PacBio.

We are seeking a short-term (6-12 months) contractor to work on understanding novel variants related to rare inherited diseases and cancer. Within the term of the contract, you will:

  • Learn about the cutting-edge HiFi sequencing data.
  • Optimizing bioinformatics workflow to interpret variants that could potentially contribute to diseases.
  • Build novel visualization approaches utilizing HiFi sequencing data.
  • Develop algorithms to analyze long accurate DNA or RNA data.
  • Learn about using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to process large-scale genomics datasets.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external scientists in impactful projects.
  • Present scientific results from collaborations.

Requirements:

  • Studying for a bachelor's or master's degree in a computational field, e.g., bioinformatics, computer sciences, statistics, genetics.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R or Rust.
  • Have clear written and verbal communication skills.
