Job Summary
The SafeHerb Production Underwriter is responsible for increasing sales by way of existing clients, and securing new business customers, by providing industry leading customer service, product knowledge, and creative and timely problem solving. They are also responsible for profit and loss of their underwriting territory.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for increasing sales by way of existing retail agent clients and securing new business accounts by providing excellent customer service, product knowledge and creative and timely problem-solving. This position will have a strong focus on the property segment including property and general liability/XS lines of business. A focus in Cannabis is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Locate new sales opportunities for the company in specified territory by visiting existing and new customers.
Maintain and increase current profitable books of business in specified territory.
Present our products and services to various groups within the customer’s organization.
Establish and foster client relationships; anticipate and resolve potential problems.
Respond to the customers’ needs and follow through on all aspects of request, both written and verbal.
Participate in activities needed to support the growth of the company.
Analyze, select, and profitably price risks of varying complexity.
Determine terms and conditions of coverage on new and renewal business.
Provide underwriting proposal and competitive rate recommendations in a timely manner.
Maintain underwriting quality.
Achieve overall growth and profit objectives.
Consistently maintain professional and appropriate demeanor.
Maintain the highest level of customer service.
Maintain awareness of Cannabis Industry and insurance trends.
Build strong, positive agent relationships to promote profitability and growth of new business and the retention of existing business.
Develop, strengthen, and maintain agency/company relations through effective personal, verbal, and written forms of communication.
Build strong internal team relationships to promote positive team environment.
Work cooperatively and productively with others.
Able to handle stress and demands of job.
Required Experience
10+ years Property underwriting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience managing direct reports. Conflict resolution skills and thorough understanding of company policy and procedures.
Minimum 10 years GL and Property underwriting experience, with a focus on property and grocery/retail segment is a plus. Must be able to work independently and build strong client and company relationships. Bachelor’s degree is desired.
Large account Property/GL experience preferred.
Ability to calculate premiums based on exposures and rates. Ability to apply payments and/or refunds to specific invoices and item numbers.
Licensing and designations preferred but not required.
Reasoning ability. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to anticipate and resolve future problems before they occur. Ability to solicit assistance when necessary. Ability to problem solve beyond conventional solutions (think outside of the box). To think and always act in the best interest of the Agency, Customer, and Carrier.
Employee must be self-starter, highly motivated and be able to effectively work remotely.
Education
Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
