Job description

Director Children Services Wales

Salary: Up to £88,000 dependant on skills and experience.

Contract: Permanent.

Location: Office based in Cardiff or remote, with travel required.

A bit about the role

Reporting to the Managing Director of Children's Services, you will drive dynamic, strategic leadership across Wales Children’s Services management team, delivering high quality, safe and efficient services in line with agreed contracts and practice standards.

You will lead the delivery of both existing and new contracts along with the significant growth planned in Wales for Action for Children in 24-25.

A key element of our growth strategy in Wales is increasing our foothold, you will have demonstrable experience of developing relationships with commissioners, influencing the commissioning landscape and helping to shape the delivery of statutory children services across the nation.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Providing clear, visible strategic leadership and accountability with a direct responsibility for Children's Services in Wales.
  • Growing a strategically significant income stream that delivers a pipeline of new business opportunities.
  • Delivering significant and challenging financial targets against a range of services and funding models that are financially sustainable.
  • Managing relationships to maximise the opportunities presented through a devolved approach to managing resources.
  • Working in partnership with the wider Action for Children team, ensuring that Wales delivers against all strategic and operational targets.

  • Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary workforce achieving excellent evidence-based outcomes for children, young people, and families is a must.
  • You will have a desire to influence the landscape of children's services in Wales and have experience of the full range of statutory children’s services.
  • You will be able to demonstrate your understanding of the policy landscape of Welsh government and link your strategy for growth to this.
  • Your work history will show your experience working for organisations that are regularly commissioned and run viable services.
  • You will be able to evidence a business acumen and your ability to lead a viable portfolio of services across the nation.
