Job description

Summary

This Direct-Hire position is in the Food and Drug Administration and is located in the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), Office of Health Communication and Education (OHCE), Division of Public Health Education which specifically leads and directs the execution of strategies for all communication and marketing products targeted to consumers to promote the dissemination of science-based messaging to prevent tobacco initiation and encourage cessation.

Duties

Supporting the development and dissemination of science-based tobacco research products and plans for public health campaigns.


Applying a background in social science to public health education or public health messaging in the form of advertising, campaigning, marketing, or similar activities.


Evaluating and assessing portions of conventional research plans, protocols, and scientific surveys/studies to support the development of public health education initiatives (campaigns).


Working with Social Scientists and Health Communications Specialists to assist in the development of research-related materials (e.g., study instruments, project management plans, etc.).


Qualifications

The position of Social Scientist falls under the 0101 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-11, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 10/18/2024.


Basic Requirements


You possess a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

You have a Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

You have Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.


GS-11: You have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:1) Utilizing social theories, methods and techniques (e.g. focus groups and surveys) to assist with research; 2) Collaborating with internal or external stakeholders to determine the impact of social constructs on public health issues; 3) Identifying trends in research data to report to a team or other necessary personnel; and4) Identifying relevant findings and/or methodologies to apply to internal practices or projects to meet goals.
