Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sustainability Implementation Manager (Consultant) to support Cotton Council International in promoting the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol. As part of the CCI mission to promote around the world the cotton and cotton products of its members, we need an individual who can provide exceptional internal coordination and marketing support.

The Trust Protocol is a unique program for sustainably grown cotton, aligned with the U.S. National Cotton goals and developed under industry frameworks. The Trust Protocol brings quantifiable goals and measurement in six key areas, namely: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency. Using sophisticated data collection and independent third-party verification, the protocol will give brands and retailers the assurance they and their customers need that they are sourcing responsibly.

As the Sustainability Implementation Manager (Consultant), you are responsible for overseeing and improving the ongoing results of the US Cotton Trust Protocol and will help establish policies and procedures that reflect the organization's values and increase the effectiveness of the organization both internally and in how we engage with key stakeholders. The position is remotely based in the U.S. and will report directly to the Executive Director, with heavy collaboration across the organization.

The Sustainability Implementation Manager will play a critical role in supporting the Trust Protocol's mission of promoting sustainable cotton practices. This role involves overseeing a broad range of tasks, including the support of internal communications, and organizational coordination. The Manager will work closely with the leads for Assurance, Traceability, and Field Programs to ensure the smooth and effective operation of our organization in order to drive higher exports of U.S. cotton.

System Development and Maintenance:

  • Lead the coordination of operational systems to enhance efficiency across USCTP.
  • Oversee the documentation architecture, ensuring comprehensive recording of key workstreams and explore new tools to improve systematic use.
  • Supporting new systems and templates for the team to smoothly operate.

Policy Creation and Management:

  • Collaborate with Cotton Council International (CCI) and National Cotton Council (NCC) to maintain, develop and manage USCTP-specific policies.

Reporting:

  • Assist the Executive Director with report implementation for the Teams and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting content for internal and external communications.

CRM Implementation:

  • Supporting the introduction and integration of a CRM system for USCTP, coordinating with CCI as needed.

Global Team Meeting Coordination:

  • Coordinate virtual and in-person meetings, including global team and various stakeholders.
  • Handle scheduling, content preparation, and logistics in collaboration with relevant teams at NCC and CCI.

The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, flexible, and committed team player with a background in sustainable agriculture. You'll have an operations background with excellent technical expertise, and you'll be adept in managing multiple workstreams at any one time.

In addition, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with sustainable agriculture.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with a proven ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g., MS Office, Google Workspace) and experience with financial and HR management systems.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of US Cotton Trust Protocol.
  • Travel: Anticipated approximately 10-20%

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Cotton Council International and contribute to the growth of the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol and promote sustainable practices in the cotton industry. This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to support the broader organization as it scales. Please note that this is also a contract position which will renew on an annual basis.
