Job Overview

AFWERX seeks to hire a mid-level, DO-1101-03, Supervisory Acquisition Program Management Specialist, or DR-0801/1515-03, Supervisory Senior Operations Research Analyst, in AFRL/RGV AFVentures.

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Directly supports the Branch chief while serving as the Deputy Branch Chief responsible for establishing team objectives and priorities in executing a $500+ million annual budget, managing a robust active portfolio of small business research and development contracts worth ~$1 billion that drive rapid prototyping and innovative solutions for stakeholders across the Department of the Air Force.
  • Advises employees on professional development, administrative and operational matters. Resolves complaints, handles discipline or performance issues.
  • Directs, coordinates and oversees work through subordinate employees. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Assists AFVentures Branch Chief with periodic and comprehensive assessments and evaluations of tactical and operational goals and objectives to provide a basis for long-range planning to enhance the organization's management capabilities.
  • Increases enterprise collaboration by leveraging other functions (finance, contracting, legal, IT, security) and mission organization expertise and by defining opportunities to develop cross-mission organization technical programs responding to warfighter needs.
  • Represents organization at internal and external engagements.

Pay Range: $101,420- $143,324 base salary without locality. The locality will be determined based on the selected candidate's location. This position is eligible for remote work within the continental United States, no relocation is required nor will it be provided.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, DO-2/DR-2/GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems. Experience gained in non-federal positions will also be reviewed for specialized experience.
  • This position has been designated as a Non-Critical Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The incumbent must meet or be capable of achieving acquisition certification within the allowed grace period. Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications on their resume.

Desired Qualifications

Supervisory experience, especially in a remote telework / hybrid team environment

  • Master's degree in a relevant program/subject
  • Work experience with DoD acquisition Systems Program Office and/or DoD research laboratory
  • Work experience with a Research Institute
  • Work experience with Small Business or collaborating with Small Business
  • Work experience with USAF/USSF Major Command (MAJCOM) or Headquarters
  • Experience executing or managing Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and/or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
  • Professional Military Education (Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and/or equivalent Joint PME)
