Job description

Job Purpose

Completes all required purchasing activities in order to procure materials and equipment on a competitive basis as required by project, Company, or Client needs. The Intermediate Buyer is fully qualified to handle most purchasing activities and to identify, solicit, and select reliable sources of supply for materials, equipment, and services in support of project execution. Assignments are clearly defined and require the application of standard purchasing techniques, procedures, and criteria. Typical items include primarily non-engineered and some engineered items. Position reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager.

This is a full-time, non-rotational position, with the option to be located at the Worley Alaska Inc. Anchorage Fabrication Shop or the Worley Alaska Inc. main office in Anchorage. This role can also be successfully performed remotely by qualified candidates who demonstrate strong self-management skills as well as effective communication, allowing them to work productively from a location of their choice.

Essential Job Functions

  • Receives purchasing assignments from Requestor(s) and or Material Coordinator(s), depending on project.
  • Reviews purchase requests (FMRs) for accuracy and completeness, obtains clarification if necessary.
  • Assists in the development of bidders lists and qualifications as needed.
  • Prepares and issues Requests for Quotation (RFQ’s).
  • Analyzes quotations and collaborates with immediate supervisor as needed to compare quotes prior to making a recommendation.
  • Obtains Project Management and Project Controls Approval.
  • Assists with vendor setup and maintenance process per Worley’s standards as needed.
  • Generates and places approved POs with vendors, maintains POs in the Worley’s purchasing system.
  • Obtains, records, and files vendor acknowledgements as required.
  • Obtains required Vendor Data and forwards for review and approval as required.
  • Maintains comprehensive and auditable purchasing files (including but not limited to email communications, RFQs, quotations, POs, COs, acknowledgements, vendor data, etc.), primarily in electronic format.
  • Updates Buyer’s Log/Procurement Status reports as needed.
  • Interfaces with Accounts Payable department.
  • Researches issues and takes corrective action regarding any problems with purchase orders or other issues within the procure-to-pay process.
  • As needed, expedites materials, interviews sales representatives, develops routine cost information for estimating purposes and contacts suppliers to resolve problems and discrepancies.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals due to changing priorities or different situations encountered.
  • Interfaces with clients and various stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of general accounting/business development and organizational practices.
  • Strong written, analytical, interpersonal, oral communication, and leadership skills applicable to standards set by Worley.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with co-workers and client representatives.
  • Proficiency with computers, Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word at a minimum).
  • Ability to learn systems / databases quickly with hands-on and online training provided.
  • Ability to demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, plan own work, accomplish tasks of varied complexity, discover issues, and recommend solutions. Broad duties assigned from time to time depending on workload. Work is occasionally reviewed for accuracy. Technical guidance is available to advise on unusual assignments.
  • Proficiently communicate ideas and concepts. Continue to develop the ability to participate in delivery of proposals, presentations, and reports.
  • Strong understanding of systems, processes and tools related to field. Able to assist others and troubleshoot issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five (5+) years’ procurement experience (or equivalent).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, excel, and ability to train within the Worley procurement systems (such as ERM, Fleet Focus, Oracle).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within the Oil and Gas industry, construction, and fabrication fields.
  • Experience purchasing equipment, parts, and materials.
  • Experience with the specifics of the Alaska market and vendors, as well as logistical constraints.
  • Experience with international purchases and shipments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or applicable discipline, or two (2) additional years’ experience.
