About the Role:

As an Acquisitions Editor within our growing Medicine book publishing team, you will take responsibility for ensuring effective and financially successful title acquisition in emerging and established areas within clinical medicine, including practical skills-based titles, clinical manuals, educational resources, and reference content, aimed at improving health outcomes, educating the next generation of health care professionals, and upskilling the existing practitioner community.


You will build relationships with authors from all over the world and across academic communities, developing and applying your market knowledge, subject expertise, and strong networking skills. You will acquire content and products in line with our strategic goals for growth, profitability, and product enhancement, by capitalizing on market trends and interdisciplinary opportunities.


How you will make an impact:

  • Identify and develop global publishing opportunities across a competitive landscape, within traditional book publishing markets and beyond, including digital publishing
  • Acquire individual titles aimed at target markets, meeting revenue and profit goals, building financial models, and managing the review process
  • Negotiate and reach agreement with authors over content, schedules, and contractual arrangements
  • Build and maintain relationships with authors, book editors, and contributors
  • Manage the program of authors and titles published and in the pipeline, including editorial, content, cost issues, market research, monitoring sales results, and analyzing sales channels
  • Champion projects through the publishing process, proposing and implementing solutions for keeping titles on track, handling author queries and troubleshooting
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues in editorial and allied functions such as content, technology, marketing, and sales

  • Project management skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks and agendas, with attention to targets, deadlines and a productive and focused work pattern
  • Ability to build and manage strong relationships with authors and team members
  • Ability and willingness to travel
