Job Description

FamilySearch is seeking to fill a six-month internship position (with the potential to extend to one year) on the Europe Tree Building Team.

To qualify as an intern, the candidate must be a student or have graduated within the past year. The position will be part-time, up to 28 hours per week. This is a remote position. The successful candidate will be someone who can work alone as a contributor, manage their time efficiently, and drive themselves to meet expectations required for team success.

  • A list of the paleography, family history, and history classes that you have taken

Responsibilities

As an intern on the Europe Tree Building Team at FamilySearch you will increase your knowledge in paleography, genealogical research, and historical records by:

  • Analyzing historical record hints and performing genealogical research to accurately link individuals together as families in the family tree
  • Investigating possible duplicate profiles in the tree and pruning them as needed to improve the overall health of the family tree
  • Working with and training volunteers and missionaries on assigned tasks
  • Engaging in additional tree-building activities as needed

Qualifications

Required skills:

  • Interns must be currently enrolled in a college level institution, or have graduated within the past 12 months
  • Work for this position must be compelted in the U.S, and U.S work authorization is required.
  • Working knowledge of FamilySearch products such as the FamilySearch Catalog and Family Tree
  • Ability to complete detailed work with accuracy and efficiency
  • Strong genealogical research skills
  • Demonstrated paleography skills to accurately decipher historical documents in Portuguese
  • High computer proficiency including Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Helpful, But Not Required

  • Conversational speaking ability in Portuguese

  • Ability to identify genealogical documents, provide extractions, and supply research suggestions
