About The Role

As a Network Security Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting the businesses' secure network infrastructure. You’ll help safeguard one of the country’s most complex and high-volume network environments while enabling fast, secure digital innovation.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and maintain secure network architectures, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation strategies.
Implement and manage security solutions across Telstra’s enterprise and carrier-grade networks.
Monitor network traffic and security systems to detect and respond to vulnerabilities, intrusions, or policy violations.
Contribute to security incident response processes and work with SOC teams to resolve issues.

Key skills

3-5+ years of hands-on experience in network security engineering.
Strong knowledge of routing and switching (Cisco, Juniper), TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, and MPLS.
Expertise in firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Cisco ASA), VPN technologies, and next-gen network security platforms.
Experience with intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), network access control (NAC), and DDoS mitigation tools.
Exposure to automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) or scripting (Python, Bash) is a plus.
Understanding of relevant security standards and frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, ISM).
Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP Security, PCNSE, CISSP, GIAC) are desirable but not mandatory.
