About The Role

As a Network Security Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting the businesses' secure network infrastructure. You’ll help safeguard one of the country’s most complex and high-volume network environments while enabling fast, secure digital innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure network architectures, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Implement and manage security solutions across Telstra’s enterprise and carrier-grade networks.
  • Monitor network traffic and security systems to detect and respond to vulnerabilities, intrusions, or policy violations.
  • Contribute to security incident response processes and work with SOC teams to resolve issues.

Key skills

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in network security engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching (Cisco, Juniper), TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, and MPLS.
  • Expertise in firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Cisco ASA), VPN technologies, and next-gen network security platforms.
  • Experience with intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), network access control (NAC), and DDoS mitigation tools.
  • Exposure to automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) or scripting (Python, Bash) is a plus.
  • Understanding of relevant security standards and frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, ISM).
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP Security, PCNSE, CISSP, GIAC) are desirable but not mandatory.
