Role Mission
We’re looking for a skilled freelance copywriter to help us bring our updated employee handbook to life. We want a handbook that not only communicates our policies and expectations clearly, but also reflects our culture—fun, human, and values-driven.
You’ll work closely with our Director of People to transform existing content and policy documents into a cohesive, engaging, and polished handbook. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in writing for internal company communications, especially for startups or high-growth environments, and knows how to strike a balance between professional clarity and cultural voice.
Our handbook is not starting from scratch, however, we need an experienced person to help guide the content and formatting to a final product we would be proud to share with our team.
Accountabilities
Review and revise existing handbook content for clarity, tone, and flow
Create new content sections where needed, using guidance from HR and company leadership
Ensure all copy is accessible, engaging, and aligned with our brand voice
Organize the handbook logically and consistently with smooth transitions
Collaborate with HR on layout suggestions and visual presentation (we're not expecting design work, but a good eye helps!)
Qualifications
Proven experience copywriting for employee handbooks, internal documents, or HR communications
Strong preference for candidates who’ve worked with startups or small to mid, mission-driven teams
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Ability to translate legal or policy-heavy language into friendly, digestible copy
Familiarity with employer branding and company culture messaging
Bonus: experience collaborating with HR, People Ops, or internal Comms teams
