Job description

AI Innovation Internship – Summer 2025
EZ Labs @ VetsEZ | Remote | Full-Time (8-10 weeks) | Paid ($28/hr.)

About EZ Labs
EZ Labs is the innovation hub of VetsEZ - a premier federal IT systems integrator with deep expertise in modernizing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other federal agencies. As VetsEZ transitions into an AI-first enterprise, EZ Labs leads the design and deployment of mission-critical autonomous AI agents that transform how the government delivers services.

Our agents are deployed via a secure AI-Agent-as-a-Service (A2S) platform built for FedRAMP High environments. These agents leverage the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to ensure structured, auditable decision-making and communicate using Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocols for dynamic collaboration across systems and agencies.

From clinical decision support and claims adjudication to citizen services and back-office automation, EZ Labs is redefining digital government through intelligent, modular, and trustworthy AI systems.

The Opportunity
We’re seeking driven and curious interns to join us this summer in building the next generation of government-grade AI agents. As an AI Innovation Intern, you will work on real-world federal use cases at the intersection of machine learning, software engineering, and public service. You’ll be embedded within a multidisciplinary team of AI researchers, engineers, and federal domain experts to co-develop MVPs focused on improving healthcare delivery, benefits processing, and operational efficiency at the VA.

This is a hands-on, full-time internship where your work will directly contribute to deployable AI systems operating in one of the most mission-critical and impactful domains: government services.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, train, and optimize machine learning models, including NLP and predictive systems.
  • Analyze structured and unstructured datasets (including synthetic data) and support data pipeline creation.
  • Contribute to experiments, model evaluations, and performance benchmarking.
  • Collaborate across functions to shape product features and agent capabilities.
  • Support internal tool development and contribute to agent testing infrastructure.
  • Present your work in demos and a capstone showcase to VetsEZ leadership.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s students in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or related fields (ideally junior, senior, or graduate level).
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with tools like Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Knowledge of MCP and A2A protocols, or a willingness to learn.
  • Experience with NLP or unstructured text data is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Git, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) is a bonus.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Passion for public service and interest in applying AI to solve societal challenges.

What You’ll Gain

  • Top-performing interns may be offered the opportunity to continue in a part-time role during the academic year.
  • Potential for full-time offers to top-performing interns.
  • Mentorship from leading AI engineers and federal IT professionals.
  • Exposure to high-impact use cases in healthcare, benefits, and service delivery.
  • Experience working in a secure, cloud environment and tools.
  • A chance to shape ethical and transparent AI for the public sector.

How to Apply
Submit your resume, a short cover letter explaining your interest in AI for public good, and any links to GitHub or relevant projects. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
