POSITION DESCRIPTION
Currently, HGL is seeking a Part-Time Lab Quality Assurance/Quality Control Coordinator to support our Maywood FUSRAP Project
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Lab QA/QC Coordinator will be responsible for
- Directing HGL’s chemistry personnel from proposal development to field sampling to laboratory analysis to data validation to reporting.
- Working collaboratively with HGL’s Chemistry manager for ensuring resources for chemistry technical operations.
- Serving as the liaison between laboratories, data validators, HGL staff, and client.
- Developing and updating performance objectives and conducting annual performance reviews for HGL’s chemists. When needed, improving/correcting or rewarding performance, conducting training, advocating for chemists, and implementing performance improvement plans.
- Mentoring, training, overseeing, and assigning tasks to HGL’s chemists, ensuring adequate staffing is available through hiring, cross-training, teaming, and subcontracting to ensure HGL’s quality, budget, and schedule requirements are met for all programs and projects.
- Working with Chemistry Manager to resolve chemistry-related issues in a timely manner that ensures conformance with HGL’s performance standards, such as enforcing UFP-QAPP requirements with the laboratories and subcontracted validators.
- Ensuring chemistry resources are available to support field sampling events, submitting bottle orders, tracking laboratory progress, etc.
- Ensuring chemistry resources are available based on request from project managers for the preparation and writing of reports, letter reports, remedial investigation reports, monthly progress reports, standard operating procedures, and more.
- Ensure senior reviews are conducted for UFP-QAPPs, data validation narratives, data usability reports, data quality assessments, data validations, and other data reviews conducted by HGL chemists and subcontractors.
- Ensure coordination with database management personnel for the timely uploading, storage, and transmission of environmental analytical data from subcontracted laboratories into Locus EIM, SQL Server, FUDSChem, or other contract-required systems.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Ability to delegate, multi-task, and adapt to shifting priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of instrumentation used for environmental analysis (e.g., LC-MS/MS, GC/MS, ICP, GC-ECD, IC, etc.)
- Familiarity with USEPA analytical methods as well as USEPA and DOD data validation guidelines
- Proficient in standard office computer applications and software, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks and interface with multiple project managers
- Commitment to working safely and adhering to all health and safety protocols
- Serving as prime point of contact with clients, management, and subcontractors.
- Managing project teams specifically assigned responsibilities related to sampling, environmental chemistry, laboratory analysis, data validation, and/or data management.
- Working on Federal contracts ideally with USACE, AFCEC, and EPA.
- PhD in chemistry, environmental chemistry, or a related scientific discipline field plus 2 to 4 years of directly related experience in environmental consulting and/or laboratory analytical chemistry or
- MA/MS plus 4 to 6 years of directly related experience or
- BA/BS plus 6 to 8 years of directly related experience.
Preferred Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT
- Familiarity with analytical database management systems such as LIMS, Microsoft Access, SQL, Locus EIM, EQuIS, and GIS desired.
- Supervisory and/or hands-on experience in laboratories conducting analyses using EPA methods and DoD Quality Systems Manual (QSM) Version 5.1 or later
- Supervisory and/or hands-on experience with data validation conducted in accordance with National Functional Guidelines, Contract Laboratory Program requirements, and DOD Data Validation Guidelines.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $50.63-$85.00/hour. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills. If your desired salary falls outside of this range, we hope you'll still apply as there may be other positions that better aligned.
